Well I went to my first ever novice show with a bucket of roses today. The show is an annual show put on by the Tidewater Rose Society. It was Very hot and humid so by the time I got to the show some were no longer worth entering as they were full open or had muddled or split centers. But I did manage a few to enter.

Here are my results:
Antique Brass - Blue Ribbon
Attache - Blue Ribbon
Black Baccara - Red Ribbon
Dublin - Blue Ribbon
Ginger Hill - Blue Ribbon
Hot Princess - Blue Ribbon
Selena - Blue Ribbon
St. Patrick - Blue Ribbon
Superstition - Yellow Ribbon
Vendela - Blue Ribbon
Veteran's Honor - Blue Ribbon

Queen of Show - Ginger Hill (Annual Trophy)

Whoa, Deborah - way to go! I'd say you had more than "a few to enter". You have now made your grand entrance upon the VA rose scene.
That Ginger Hill is a real beaut! Congratulations.

Deborah, no one is ever "ready" for their first real show, we just dive in! You never know what everyone else will have. Most of us don't have the luxury of having an entire "Novice Show" to enter, there is usually just a "Novice Class" (or two) in a regular show. Looks like you did just fine! Congratulations!

Way to go Deb. How big did your Black Baccara bloom get. I love this rose, but the bloom is small on my Carltons plant. Got it from K+M on fort now.Fingers crossed. Super showing. Congratulations.

My Black Baccara is now 4 years old.. from Carltons as a stentling. and with Rigorous disbudding you can obtain blooms 3.5 - 4" in diameter. It has taken all 4 years to get the blooms this size. Be patient. It does get bigger with age.
