| Hi all,
Does anyone recall his pruning method for the forts? I recall it was unorthodox but gave great results. |

| Since none have responded so far, I will tell you what I saw when I went to Belle Chase to purchase roses and meet the man in Feb. 2003. I saw that his roses in the front yard were pruned to about 3.5 to 4 feet high. Looked like a flatop haircut across the bed. I'm 5'5" and they were chest high to me. At a seminar at the South Central District rose show that fall, he had slides showing cutting back the taller top canes back to a level of two leaf sets above the branching point for the cane. Additional photos after the cut show multiple canes eminating from the branch on variety shown. These seemed to be on mature plants. He said this was to keep the roses in a manageable size. They will grow out of reach if allowed to. I prunned a Big Time on Fort. back too much and it croaked. Prune tall. |

| He also said it was important to ...at some point...prune for the dormant leaf axils below the current tall blooms to break. The dormant leaf axils are what will give the bush its fullness- but is this a second or third year thing? |
