THE LAST ROSE OF SUMMER

In a garden, against a wall,
a lonely rose lay dying.
Her petals encircled her like a shawl,
as she lay there moaning and sighing.

She gazed forlornly at the garden,
remembering her sisters, already gone.
Their vibrant colors a vague memory…...,
yet she still felt their presence.

Suddenly, a mighty wind blew in,
taking her petals to the core.
The last rose of summer
is no more.
