Roses "V"

Moving on to the "V" roses--I have only one contribution, but it is a beauty.

Valencia (ht)--big fat blooms on this one!
{{gwi:346137}}

I'll be interested to see what you can come up with in the "V" category. We've all been stretching hard to find roses in these last letters, haven't we!

    I have only one V just like you, Kate: Variegata de Bologna
    {{gwi:236484}}

    No, Wait! That's not right. I have a photo of Victorian Memory (AKA Isabella Skinner) that I used to grow. (And no, the photo does not need to be rotated; the blooms really do dangle down like that from an arbor.)

    Kate, Valencia is a looker! I don't have in my garden, but always enjoy photos of her.
    Annececilia, that Victorian Memory is so graceful.

    Don't have many V's here either.

    Well, this is turning out to be an interesting thread even if it is a bit short on roses. : ) I love all the "variegatas"--Annececilia, yours is lovely, but I must confess to falling head over heels for marina's V. de Barni!

    Are the Variagatas once bloomers? I like all of them, but have never heard much about them, much less ever seen them growing in a garden.

    Velchenblau always makes a big purple show, doesn't it!

    Marina, love your hydrangeas and clematis too, but that is stepping over the line a bit, isn't it? Oh well, they are beauties too.

    How pretty all of yours are!

    Kate, I've always loved the look of Valencia, but was afraid of its hardiness. It looks like you have it in the ground; how has it done for you?

    AnneCecilia, your V di B is stunning! Mine is still young and has only put out a couple of blooms, but Im hoping for a bigger show this year :)

    Marina, I was just looking at V di Barni the other day when I was on Barni's website...really a great looking rose! Also like Vaughn's Lillie, Violette and Vichenbleu!

    Tammy

    I don't have too many, but here is what I have:

    Vineyard Song

    Vera Johns
    {{gwi:1204132}}

    Vavoom
    {{gwi:1204134}}

    ...and my baby Violette which will someday hopefully look like Marina's :)

    tammy, yes, Valencia is planted in the ground. I don't give it any winter protection, but my neighbor's oak leaves have been known to blow into my yard here and there and thus provide some haphazard protection. On the other hand, Valencia has never been a super-strong, vigorous grower for me--but that doesn't seem to affect her blooming at all. She's slow to re-bloom, but when she does, her large beautiful blooms last nearly twice as long as many other rose blooms in my garden. Since the plant is not overly vigorous, I sometimes have to put a small prop under the stems sporting the big fat blooms--to keep them looking upward!

    I really like my Valenica--good smeller too.

    I don't know what's happening but half the pictures are not showing up for me any more. Anyone else having this problem or is it just me?

    Kate, I am sorry for posting non-rose photos on this thread. You are right, they don't belong here. My bad.

    Seil, has your computer been running a long time? Try turning it off and resting it for 30 seconds and then starting it up again. The pics may magically re-appear! (At least that sometimes works for my computer.)

    Marina--just teasing you for not having at least 50 "V" roses in your garden! : )

    Oops! You've got me, Kate :)))
    Since I don't have at least 50 V's in the garden, I tried to make my list more impressive :)

    Onward to the Vs--and I see the end of the alphabet has been posted, so I'd better get crackin'.
    The color and beautiful form of Valencia are outstanding, Kate.
    Annececilia, your Variegata de Bologna is so crisp and fresh and pepperminty--looks delicious.
    I love the ruffles and frills of Vanguard (name is not so hot), Marina. It looks like an old fashioned dress. Ooh, Variegata de Barni has a luscious color combination. I'm also impressed with your hydrangea, Vaughn's Lillie. The panicle looks huge. Your clems are gorgeous, too. I love my hibiscus, but your Cajun hibiscus is to die for. I'd love to grow one,but wonder how hardy they are.
    Tammy, Vavoom is pure eye candy. What a great color.
    Beth, the color shading of Vendee Imperiale is lovely.
    Thanks for posting the very lovely Vs. Now on to W. Diane

    There is a (new?) Rosa, 'Vincent van Gogh' - I saw it the other day..
    I think it was at Jackson & Perkins website.. It is a vivid, blood red.

    ( I want to get it to go with my white Rosa, 'Starry Night'.)

    The ones above which I would order firstly are, 'Veilchenblau ' (which I did order this year), 'Verdun', 'Violette', 'Vineyard Song', and 'Vavoom'.
