| cherrykist - I really like Austin roses, thanks for starting this interesting thread! You have quite a nice collection of them! niecey - your photos of the Austin roses are awesome! I especially like the one of William Shakespeare 2000, Heritage (looks like the rose is mysteriously glowing from the inside), and Othello! I'm eying William Shakespeare 2000 for quite a while now, but after seeing your photo, there is no way out: I have to order him! Thanks for posting. |

| I don't think you should encourage me to post pics of my Austins...LOL...this thread could get awfully long! I grow dozens of them so I just pulled up the first pics I found and will have to forget about posting ALL of them. Goodness knows there are so many that I hate to leave out! But here's a sampling of a few that haven't been posted yet. Celeste Spirit of Freedom........ Ambridge Rose...... Falstaff....... Harlow Carr........ Pretty Jessica........ Bredon...... Bishop's Castle.... The Generous Gardener..... Belle Story..... Charlotte.... Noble Antony.... Queen of Sweden.... Grace.... Mayor of Casterbridge..... Winchester Cathedral.... Eglantyne.....

| Niecey - Your 'Evelyn' looks really B e a u t i f u l . Makes me want to have one. Why is Princess Mararita your least favorite? Is that photo really PM? The blooms look single . ------- Celestialrose - what are your thoughts on Mayor of Casterbridge? I haven't made up my mind whether I should buy it or give it a miss. It looks beautiful, but I don't understand why people at Helpmefindrose give this rose a poor rating.
| Jimmy you are so right, It is not CPM, it is Comtes des Champagne(CDC). The reason it is my least favorite cuz it grows very leggy and spacy and does not bloom very often. It's days are also numbered. Celest that is quite a selection you have, they are gorgeous. I especially like Queen of Sweden and Pretty Jessica. If I had more yard space, I would just add only Austins. Cherry thanks for starting this thread, all of these vibrant and beautiful color Austin roses brightens up my cold(-14 outside) freezing gloomy day. P.S. I also have Pat Austin, but for some reason I never could get an okay photo of her. |
| Your Pat Austin is absolutely stunning. The color is so vibrant and just glowing. This spring I am moving my PA into another spot with a bit more room. It's been hiding behind my butterfly bush. Niecey |

| Gee, when I started this thread I didn't realize just how many Austins there are. I also didn't realize how many Austins I would want to have! Like Harlow Carr, and Othello, and Grace and Noble Antony......and the list goes on! Thanks for posting everyone, I hope to see a lot more! Tammy |
| Winchester's cathedral and Eglantine have the beauty that cannot be easily described with words, they have subdued, soft, relaxed beauty, originality combined with the classic look, these are really timeless genuine roses that attract not with vivid colors and perfect shape but with their warmth and gentleness. Falstaff, William Shakespeare and Mayor of Casterbridge - so perfect that they do not look real, they are out of this world. My favourite is Belle Story because I love nice stories and fairy tales. It is so tender and gentle and does not look like the other roses from the series. Princess Margarita just looks demure, sad and crying...

| Those deep purples are just awsome. |
| Prospero is the truly most beautiful rose existing on this Earth, at least for me because my first impression is that it combines poetry and physical beauty, music and and fire, passion and elegance, light and shadow, power and weakness. It is an explosion of colors and a wirlpool of emotions as if the good and the bad are fighting in it, it is the ideal rose: angel and demon, happiness and sadness, sunshine and darkness, no other rose has affected me in such a way as this. This is a rose full of contradictions and these contradcitions are the essence of its appeal! The colors appear and disappear and turn magically into others by waves. Exotic rose, magical and gorgeous! Stunning pictures! You are a magical photographer. |

| I KNEW better than opening this post! WOW! SOOO many pretty one's! I have several Austins and I absolutely LOVE them! Would love to have a few hundred more if I thought I could keep up with them! Thanks for the great pictures. April |
| I am still mystified by Prospero, it is like a rose from a secret garden, from heaven or hell, it has some unexplicable power over me, I cannot stop watching it - I really got goosebumps when I saw it, and I cannot take my eyes off of it, i think it is a powerful work of art able to provoke thought and emotion. All the pictures are gorgeous but Prospero is like a magnet for my eyes and heart. I have never been moved by a rose like this before. Extraordinary. |

| Here are some of mine. The first is a spray of Sweet Juliet.
I don't see Clair Rose mentioned much, but I like her also.
| My favourites in te last installment: Peach blossom and the Herbalist, they have delicate charm and affectionate sweetness. Very lovely. All the pictures are very beautiful. |
| Windrush is very beautiful too, such a purity, frailty and delicacy, I can imagine the blossoms dancing with the breeze, and the sweet fragrance lingering in the air, and its touch so soft to the skin... |

| Gosh, there are so many pretty Austins... Thanks everybody for posting your pics! Celeste - could say something more about Queen of Sweden and Spirit of Freedom. How are these roses doing for you? How is the fragrance? twohuskies - I love your deep dark colored Austins like Chianti, The Prince, Tradescant, Prospero. The colors are just to die for. Would you please share some more information about the purple repeated bloomers? the bustopher - it is great that you have posted some of the more uncommon Austins. I especially like the Clair Rose! |

| twohuskies - thank you very much for posting 2 more photos of Prospero. They show the development in the color quite well. Also thank you very much for making the effort and giving so detailed information about The Prince, Tradescant and Prospero. That was quite helpful! Based on what you are writing I will get The Prince!!! He seems to have the color that I like the most out of the three roses and strong fragrance is always a plus. It will be interesting how this rose is doing for me here in zone 10. Thanks again for enabling me! |

| Cherrykist, let me tell you about the differences between Golden Celebration, Graham Thomas and Molineux. I grow GC and GT and have seen Molineux in person. They are all winners!!! If one had to be chosen of the three, I would say it would have to be Golden Celebration. Arguably, David Austin's best rose. Golden Celebration: Big cups of gold with a citrus scent that is strong. The color is like no other yellow. It really has gold in it. It is a very easy rose to grow and insists on being noticed in the garden. Is it my favorite rose? Yes, Yes, yes!!! Graham Thomas: Beautiful yellow blooms. Such delicate soft, yet vibrant yellow flowers. It looks like porcelain. It has a nice tea-rose scent and it is a very good rose, but the bush grows tall and lanky. Molineux: I don't grow this one, but I have seen it in another garden. It is smaller than GC and GT. It has nice blooms with a good scent that are more orange-yellow at times. It is good, but GC and GT are must haves. Chance |
| Wow!!! Must say that on the city of Toronto's 175 birthday and the +18°C. ( very approx 65°F) weather we had, finding all these wonderful blooms has chased away my winter blues. Thank you all for posting your fantastic rose photos. |

| Someone asked about Abraham Darby living up to all the hype. It was my 2nd Austin. The heavenly fragrance wafts into my nearby bedroom window and that I appreciate!!! Tho I think it is a matter of personal preference. If you love apricot roses that are not needed for bouquets, and you have plenty of space, you will enjoy Abe. Blossoms are large and consistantly attractive. For me only, it gets an 8 out of 10. Evelyn gets my 10. |

| Thank you for your comments! Randy, I do have a passion for my garden but I've had to adjust a lot. The one thing I do is not follow the rules. Hostas have become a passion because so many of the plants (Roses included) were difficult to grow here. I've almost given up on T-Roses and in a learning curve have come to love the loose, natural look of the old fashioned varieties even more. My garden started out along the lines of English Cottage, loose and natural. Over the years because of increasing shade and increasing age, I've realized that the foliage plants suit me better. I'm so thankful to be able to enjoy the hostas who's beauty is there all season, not just when they have a flower. I am very active on the Hosta Forum if anyone wants to see more of my garden or click on McTavish above to see some other pictures on my home page. Organicgardendreams - I'm going to post a couple threads with some of my other roses. I'm glad you like my pictures since I like sharing them. I see on your home page you are in San Diego - I grew up in Garden Grove. McTavish |

| Carol, thank you. Deli black forest ham?!! I don't eat ham so I had to find some images online before I knew what you were talking about ( I get it now.) But I still don't think David Austin should describe AD like that in his catalog... :~) |

| Some of my favourite Austin pictures. A few notables are missing - e.g. LD Braithwaite, Wenlock - I never ever seem to quite capture the true colour and form of these two roses. Heritage - I seem to take it for granted these days. Graham Thomas, William Shakespeare - deceased. Evelyn Evelyn A Shropshire lad Eglantyne Eglantyne Golden Celebration Golden Celebration Golden Celebration |

| Beautiful, Cactus Joe and Msjam. Mjam, please tell me about Mary Magdeline. Are those blooms in your 2nd pic typical? The pics in the Austin catalog do not do her justice. Is she healthy? Does she bear lots of flowers? |

| What a wonderful post. Love the photos of so many different Austins. I only have 3 so far (all new last year) but seeing so many northerners in z5 and below have success with them I think I'll be trying more. I do not mulch or collar unless I have an unusual amount of free time in the fall so a rose has to be very hardy to stay in my garden. I also have 'Constance Spry' but she sulked last year and did not put on growth or bloom well. It looks like she wintered OK so we'll see if she has got her footing this year. |
| Huttnem, oh yes! Mary M has the cutest "buttons" and she smells d i v i n e! Her fragrance is stronger than Tamora to my nose. She stays really small in my garden, no more than 2 x 2 ft. |

| I wish I had a camera......my newly planted Graham Thomas, Pat Austin, and WS2000 are all getting ready to pop within the next week or so...I can't wait. I feel teased by all the warmer zone goers having their blooms already. This is a phenomenal artsy thread. |

| Ushak: Are you describing Charlotte as one that should stay quite small? Maybe in Zone 6 but in my Mom's garden in Zone 7 this rose is anything but petite. I took this picture two summers ago and the rose was only one year planted then from a bare root. That tall cane in the middle came up to my chin and I am six feet tall. After flushes Mom goes in and cuts it back quite a bit so ends up doing so throughout the course of the summer. A good rose that definitely likes to stretch and let its presence be known. Kate |

| Those are just too good looking. Now I am going to have to coax mine to bloom some more. |
| Positively breathtaking... every picture! I have a question for you all... which of the Austins are the hardiest? I'm in zone 5b, but we occasionally get some really frigid winters. I've played it safe choosing roses rated for zone 4, and they are lovely... but the English roses are just too beautiful! Which do you think stand the greatest chance of survival in the colder zones? Thanks in advance! |
| I also love Gertrude Jekyl, I have her between a WS2000 and The Prince and she is such a lovely contrast to them both. Please forgive the foliage, too many projects, too little time. |
