growing roses on the house

I want to trellis some roses on the side of my house but have not found a sturdy, attractive way to do it that does not damage the shingles, that leaves space between the plant and the house and is discreet yet functional.
Would love to see other peoples ideas. in England they use pipe and wire on old stone homes but it is not attractive and damages shingles.

RE: growing roses on the house

marjole, you might want to re-post your question over on the Rose Forum. This forum here is a rose gallery--for rose pictures--though the nice people here might answer your question here anyway--if they see it. There is much more traffic on the regular Rose Forum, which is why you might prefer using it.

Good luck. If I knew anything about climbers on houses, I'd share it. Sorry for my ignorance. : )
