 o
William Shakespeare name question

Are William Shakespeare and William Shakespeare 2000 the same thing? Last year I bought a William Shakespeare from Heirloom and wasn't keyed into the discrepancy, so have gone along thinking they were the same.

RE: William Shakespeare name question

William Shakespeare 2000 is the updated version of William Shakespeare. It's supposed to have better disease resistance and rebloom.

But I'm sure that the one you bought is beautiful!!

They are two completely different roses with different breeding altogether. Austin reused the name because it sells, and he had the rights. They are the same color, but the "2000" version is much healthier and more vigorous.

Heirloom, Rogue Valley Roses and the other own root vendors can sell only the older one (1987 version) because the newer one is still under patent.
