Abe Darby grown as a climber. I love this rose for beauty and fragrance.

Looks great. Is this one bush??

Same question as Ken: Is this one bush? It makes a nice hedge, with so many blooms. The rose park nearby, zone 5a, has Ab. too, but much LESS blooms. How do you fertilize yours to get such an abundance? Our soil here is alkaline, deficient in both potassium and phosphorus (got tied up with excess magnesium).

Yes, this is one bush that my husband trained to grow horizontally. It is on fortuniana, so that helps. This bush is only about 3 years old and it gets pruned every spring and fall.
If you look closely to the far left, you can see a few blooms of Sombreuil, which is planted on both sides of Abe.

Wow--that is one heck of an Abe Darby! I've never seen one in real life, but it is amazing some of the beautiful photos a number of you post of it on this forum. Very photogenic rose, I take it.

Is there a term for the feeling of having your palms itch and your mouth water when you look at a picture of a gorgeous rose? It reminds me of my first serious crush in Jr. High!

Suebelle--It is truly amazing what Fortuniana root stock can do to a rose bush. I once toured a garden in Tampa, Fla. that had about 30 roses growing on Fortuniana Root stock where each and every bush was 12ft. tall. (Great looking bush of Abe. Darby.)--Ron
