Red Intuition, Ebb Tide and my arbor

My one-caned Red Intuition really gave me a nice spray. Now that it's in the ground, I'm hoping it will add a few more canes.

Red Intuition

Red Intuition

Ebb Tide is one of my new bareroots for this season. This thing is giving huge fragrant sprays for its first flush. I heard Ebb Tide was a slow starter, but my bush apparently didn't get the message!

Here's my arbor. Renee is on the right and has just started its flush. Maid of Kent, an obscure climber, is on the left hasn't started blooming yet. This thing looks much better in person. For some reason, I have a hard time capturing the beauty of full landscaping/bush shots. The blooms always seem washed out compared to the foliage. I don't know if it's my photography or my camera.

What beautiful rose, Red Intuition is such a sparkling colour, like fireworks, and Ebb Tide is lovely with so many blossomas and this charming lavender color.

Hershi, Red Intuition is beautiful. Ebb Tide looks like grape sherbet, very lovely! I adore your arbor and bench/swing?

Your 'Red Intuition' looks just fabulous. Mine has 2 fat buds. :) The arbor looks really good too. Try shooting pics about 6:30 in the morning on a sunny day (if we ever get one). With the sun at an extreme angle the colors come through better.

Your arbor swing is so nice. I am on the hunt for a pretty swing. Your Ebb Tide is beautiful. I love purples. Thanks for sharing, Judy

I can't believe how full your Ebb Tide blooms are!!! They're phenomenonal!! Red Intuition is one of the most beautiful roses there is. Wish I had it. Yours looks unbelievable. I think your rose pictures should be in a calendar!!

Nice arbor Hershi!! That's a beautiful spray of RI!! I'm sure it will do just fine once it gets settled in. I love mine! And that's a pretty darn good first flush on your EBB TIDE! Beautiful!

Gorgeous roses. I love Red Intuition. I will have to find one soon for the patio. It is a must-have. Of course, Ebb Tide is wonderful, too. One of my favorites.

Thanks everyone for your nice comments! I bought the Arbor/Swing combo from a company that has either been acquired or changed its name to Arthur Lauer. I'll post a link below. We really love it. It's big enough that the whole family can pretty much pile on.

Regarding the arbor pic, thanks for your advice HoovB. I'll have to try that once the weather dries up. Hubby says I need to increase the F-stop number. So I guess I'll try that too. Or maybe I just need a new camera! HoovB, I still look at your breathtaking pictures from your Rose Tour. What camera do you use?

It's a Nikon Coolpix, pretty out of date by now, 6+ years old, I think, but trust me, it's not the camera, it's ALL about the lighting. Just get the light right and you will be astonished.

Pick a flower and walk around and look at it lit from different angles. Take it into dappled shade and move it around and get the light hitting just the center of the flower, then the top, then the sides. Study Labrea's outstanding pictures and see what the lighting is like--where the light is coming from, what part of the flower is getting hit by the light. He's so good at it. Then sit and look at your arbor and see how the light is hitting it at different times of the day.

And a tripod helps a lot.

And then of course post the outstanding results of your study here so we can enjoy them. :^)

Landscaping shots HAVE to be taken when the sun is not shining... (overcast is best)

That spray of RI is so awesome!

Ebbtide is a slow starter... not the blooms, but the bush as a whole... after this flush it might seem like nothing is happening... the canes aren't very vigourous, the bush stays short...

Scrumptous roses,

I hope you don't mind ~ I 'played' with your trellis picture in IrfanView (free download photo program that I love). I think a couple of tweaks and your pic is great. Cropped to keep the focus on the trellis and used gamma bar to darken. What do you think? Oh, and I saved at 90 on the compression bar which reduced the size by a little more than 1/2 but kept good detail.

WOW... what great sprays you have! Here's hoping that your Red Intuition will grow new canes as great as that one!

Heh I think its my dream to eventually be able ta set up a space with a nice swing set like that =) with PLENTY of roses all around.

Your making me wanna head down to Roger's right now and pick out another rose bush, but as you know its been so gloomy out these past couple of days -_-

RE: Red Intuition, Ebb Tide and my arbor

Thanks everyone for the good advice. Iris gal, that pic is much improved. I'll have to see if Photoshop Elements has a gamma bar.

Thanks,

Hershi

Also try very early morning for pure colors. The higher the sun the more washed out things look. Near sunset works too I think.

RE: Red Intuition, Ebb Tide and my arbor

Love red intuition. I am on the waiting list for that one.

I have 2 ebb tides. It is a great rose. I get sprays of up to 15 roses on one branch!

I love the pergola swing and roses. I need to get one of those!
