Well a few things are starting to bloom

I planted all the roses, but the bare roots come in the mail tomorrow and then I should be pretty much done for the year. The roses are quite odd looking and struggling to cope with the climate change. It went from 46 and flooding rain and is now 93 in dry full sun, so many are literally just going through shock with the rapid change. As far as roses that I planted last fall, Winchester Cathedral was the 1st bloomer. Blooms are bigger this year and I'm getting button eyes.

The Carding Mill had a bloom on it from my RU order before I planted it.

Mary Magdalene is a spindly sending from RU, but that seems to be kind of the growth habit...small and spindly, so it will just take some time to get established

Queen of Sweden baby bloom...more on the peachish side than pink.

My mom's roses that she planted a while back are blooming.....still no clue what it is, but it has to be some well known or generic rose.

Some light refracting through Dublin Bay's new true red petals.

Bishop's Castle......still putting all that energy into all those buds...will probably bloom last but with the greatest show. Dublin Bay on the corner of the porch.

This rose was really confusing me. I hadn't seen it bloom, so I was unaware of what it was....it was already planted there by my mother. It started putting out really odd growth and my mother said it was a yellow rose but she wasn't sure.....it is pretty self explanatory....still a pretty rose though...I might find another location for it to get larger.

Golden Celebration buds are starting to pop....bigger flowers than usual with a more bronzish coloring than before and more HT shaped blooms than the usual cupped shape...more than likely due to the super rainy weather.

Kind of a long story but my mother planted this rose about 20-25 years ago....gets no maintenance whatsoever. Not sure what it is yet, but it has true old rose scent and I KNOW I've seen and smelled it before. I will have to go through all my rose photos and figure out which rose it is. I'm taking some cuttings of it.

More to come in the next week or so. Still waiting on:

Charles Darwin, Abe Darby, Bishop's Castle, WS2000, Evelyn, Charlotte, Huntington Rose, Sharifa Asma, Paul Neyron, Mirandy, Double Delight, Pascali, Peace, Europeana, Just Joey, Medallion, and Spirit of Freedom. Baron Girod de L'Ain is still young and will probably not bloom this year.

Wow those are gorgeous!!! I can't believe how striking that yellow and pink striped bud is. It doesn't even look real!! What rose is it?

The pink rose (last set of pictures) is gorgeous!! No idea what it is - but wow!!

Golden Celebration looks fantastic too. My goodness you have some fine roses!!!

I ordered Winchester Cathedral and Queen of Sweden this year. What do you think of these roses?

Thank you so much!!

I'm not sure what the yellow/pink bicolor rose is. I was guessing Pinata or Granada...it has to be one of those Wal mart type roses so I'm unsure.

I bought Winchester Cathedral as a band from High Country back in mid summer of 2009. It has more prickly thorns than large thorns. The plant does seem susceptible to mildew, but nothing too harsh. The blooms are nice and seem to be changing as the plant matures. Petals tend to blow quickly but it doesn't die out to a brownish color...the petals just drop. It is very fragrant with a very unique fragrance. Austin's description is quite accurate of honey almonds with a touch of vanilla. They stay fragrant too even after the petals have dropped.

Queen of Sweden is new this year as a 1 gal RU order. This was the first bloom that I've had of it. So far the fragrance is on the light-moderate side, but detectable. Beautifully cupped blooms and QOS seems to be a more hybrid tea-esque grower with upright canes in a tidy bush from others that I have seen.

Veryyyyy nice Nick! Very colorful! Carding Mills bloom coloration and form is lovely. My friend DorsetMike loves his Baron Girod de L'Ain but he is quite horrified about it being a disease magnet- but he won't take it out of his garden because the fragrance and the amount of blooms it produces is magnificent--- and I've seen his rose and totally agree about him keeping it. I'd never be able to SP a beautiful fragrant rose, lol! No Can Do, lol!

Great roses you got there. Can't wait for your Evelyn and Charlotte roses to bloom. I want to get Charlotte but not too sure exactly what she looks like. I hope Charlotte's blooms are more cupped with interwined petals than Graham Thomas.

I'm still surprised in your country you guys don't have fences. We need fences here to fend off intruders from trespassing our gardens or using our water when we are not home.

Lovely roses. My fave. is Carding Mill with the pointed petals.

I'm raising the ties up a bit. Rabbits and squirrels are a notoriously bad problem in this area. I saw a few gopher their way towards the roots of Sharifa Asma...I don't think they got far enough though. If they would of, Sharifa Asma would be dead right now. I can only do so much to fend them off at this point as most of the roses are in exposed borders and there isn't much to do about it. I basically take cuttings of them all because I'm anticipating some pest kills them all. I ran off a couple rabbits the other day. On the bright side I saw a few hummingbirds out there the other day.
