| I love the reds. They stand out from across the garden. Here are some favorites. I onlly grow those that are more toward blood red, those that have no blue in them. The ones I have are relatively sun fast. Most are darker in color than my photos show.
Black Magic
Crimson Bouquet
Facepaint, a nice climber that stays medium size
Gypsy Carnival (Lavaglut is the darker one)
Priscilla Burton
Mon Cheri
My other favorites are Dublin Bay and Ingrid Bergman, which I posted earlier. |

| Red roses are very special, I think red is the color of real true roses. Black Magic is really very beautiful, I have a red rose and it is difficult to catch the color in photo, so it takes skills to show the true beauty of red roses. This rose is really exceptional. Does it have a strong smell? The petals look made of velvet, I think this is a fine example of a perfect rose! Also, I am very delighted with the single rose Facepaint, look at this big cluster of red blooms, so breathtaking, fresh and colorful! I love the name of Lavaglut, it has passion and danger and hotness in it. The color of Lavaglut is sublime even if you did not show a close up of the rose and I saw it only as background of Gypsy Carnival which is not 100% red but the contrast of red and yellow make it very appealing. Mon Cheri looks delicious and charming, and Priscilla Burton is very sweet and nice, what is its size by the way? I love single roses very much too. Thank you for this treat for the eyes! A true rose is the red rose. I know most people will disagree but for me red is a queen color. Thanks again for sharing. |

| OOOH. AHHH. Very, very lovely reds, Kathy!! :D Am especially enthralled with your pics of BLACK MAGIC. It looks sooooo incredibly beautiful. It's form and velvety red coloration just takes my breath away. My daughter and I went Ritters Nursery here in Spokane yesterday, and lol, guess what? ;) One of the roses that came home with me just happened to be a very healthy looking BLACK MAGIC, so these photos of yours have me even more excited than I already was. Thanks a bunch, lady!!! Oh, and you say it's relatively sun fast? Being that it is so dark I was wondering it's blooms would fry, if and when, we get triple digit heat during our summers. I was wondering if I should plant it where it will get morning sun only rather than up against the south side of my home which gets sooo hot when our heat gets intense. Where do you think would be the optimal place to plant this velvety red jewel? Thanks!! Debbie (in semi-arid zone 5b/6a) |

Thanks for the nice comments. Just some words about them. Black Magic has had some trouble with canker but comes back strong each summer despite losing canes to the canker. It is in full sun in the summer. It lasts well and doesn't get brown and crispy although we get very hot summers. Of course, nothing here does really well above 95 degrees. It is an upright rose, doesn't spread out alot. Lavaglut--I will take some photos of it tomorrow. It is a smaller deep red rose that lasts so long you get tired of it! Loves the heat. Gypsy Carnival is a favorite. It is definitely a cherry red, not that deep red I usually go for. It did great in a pot and is still getting used to the ground. Face Paint--I visited Garden Valley nursery years ago and it was sitting by the counter inside. I had seen a photo of it and decided to get this lonely specimen on a whim. It is the best ever--I don't know why it isn't more popular or available. Jeff built a brass trellis for it which is perfect. |

| Thank you Kathy for answering my request for Lavaglut. Looking forward to seeing your updates. I am researching about dark red roses because I love them, and there are only a few roses that manage not to get sunburn and fading under the hot sun, that is why I appreciate all dark red roses that hold their color consistantly under extreme weather conditions. |

You really have to be careful, that Black Magic just popped out of the screen :D Thank you |

| Here is my attempt to photograph Lavaglut. Usually it is very dark red. Today it doesn't look as dark, maybe because we are still in a cold weather phase--brrr, chilly California. Think darker,
and I forgot to show Altissimo, climbing on a big tripod. It is a big red that does well as a cut flower in arrangements, surprisingly.
and another Ingrid Bergman as it is still blooming,
Buds are strange but blooms aren't. Not sure why that pink is in the photo. |

| Very nice! Thanks for sharing. Red roses are quite nice. |

| Thank you for sharing the new photos Kathy. Lavaglut is just like I have imagined it, like a hot lava of red cascading blooms. That big full cluster of flowers is stunning. I think there is nothing more sttriking in the rose world than a red rose, it immediately attracts all the attention. Altissimo and Ingrid Bergman prove this too! |

| All beauties, Kathy! Red's are my nemesis to photograph too but your photos are lovely! |

| Black Magic, Ingrid Bergman and Mon Cheri are really, really amazing. Like everyone else said here - Black Magic is red rose perfection with the velvety texture. Mon Cheri reminds me of Paradise but with different colors. I just love the color combination of yours. My daughter swooned over Gypsy Carnival and Altissimo. It's funny how we have different tastes in roses. Altissimo is really striking. How large are those blooms on Altissimo?? Thanks for the beauty!! Carol |

| Kathy, I love the roses and Mon Cheri is my favorite. I ordered one from PA last year and it died, so I will keep trying to find it and will try again next year. It made my day to see these photos and especially Mon Cheri. |

| Black Magic inspired me to buy my Black Baccara. I think Black Baccara is darker red than Black Magic. But both are gorgeous! |
