More late May roses

Since I'm posting this from work I'm not sure how many I'll be able to post until I have to stop, but I'm starting with the oldest and working my way towards the newest ones.

Freddie Mercury, the same blossom over three days.

Leonie Lamesch

 photo leonielamesch_zpsf3ea1e6b.jpg

Circus. This is one that always amazed me as a child in my aunt's garden, the aunt who gave me so many perenienial starts. I still have the Yarrow she gave me starts of.

 photo circus_zpsa85f84da.jpg
 photo circus2_zpsc6cec5f0.jpg

a band of Barbara Oliva--it smelled really great too!
 photo barbaraolivaband_zps991c9840.jpg

Sir Thomas Lipton. He actually looks better as a whole bush than his individual flowers. Most aren't as well-formed as the one I photographed.

 photo sirthomaslipton2_zpsf35ba720.jpg

Eugene de Beauharnais (or maybe it Le Grand Capitain). Love the blossoms, lovely fragrance, plant is a bit small and fragile.

Aunt Margy's Rose

Distant Drums--one of the last blooms of its first flush

Alba Suaveolens (of commerce, I guess)

Cecile Brunner

Cafe Ole--most blooms are the light lavender of the second photo, not the light tan of the first. The plant itself is super fragile, has almost defoliated from blackspot since these were taken. I hope it survives, this is alreay the second one I've had. Don't know if I'll get a third.

Letchworth Centenary. One of only two grafted roses I still have, because I love the blooms and can't find it ungrafted--or anywhere, really, since Palatine doesn't ship here anymore.

Pluto, or Hurdy Gurdy. another one really hit badly by blackspot, but it is larger so will probably survive.

Duplex, still going strong. It was one of the earlier roses to start blooming.

 photo duplex4_zps27eb7a58.jpg

Finally a blossom of Geranium Red worthy of posting. My very favorite rose, and favorite fragrance as well.

 photo geraniumred_zps6a67d0fc.jpg

Careless Love, a rose I've wanted since I saw it in the Henry Fields nursery catalog when I was 10.

Brown Velvet. I keep trying to tell people this rose is orange, not brown or russet.

 photo brownvelvet_zpsa108191b.jpg

Bambino, an orange miniature

 photo bambino_zps7b5f5aa8.jpg

the miniature Sachet

 photo sachet_zps351c38dc.jpg

Unconditional Love, another rose I'm quite fond of. the blossoms last a very long time on the bush.

The miniature Y2K, which is looking really healthy this year.

Angel Face.

 photo angelface_zps9c67266e.jpg

Spanish Rhapsody, should be able to take pictures of fully opened blooms tonight but may not be able to post them until tomorrow, if the board don't fix the sign in problem.

 photo spanishrhapsody_zpsae45707c.jpg

Darlow's Enigma

 photo darlowsenigma_zps7926041a.jpg

 photo darlowsenigma2_zpsa158c201.jpg

Eugenie de Guinoisseau. Another that should be fully open by tonight, very mossy buds.

< photo eugenieguinisou_zps2448ebe8.jpg
another blossom of Geranium Red, a day later and a bit more orange than the one above.

 photo geraniumred2_zps5e5b3ee2.jpg

Bubblebath

 photo bubblebath_zpsaef955f1.jpg

Kazanlik. The fragrance was a bit disapointing. I was expecting something fabulous, but really I have a lot more fragrant roses than this.

 photo kazanlik_zps7d2fefed.jpg
 photo kazanlik2_zps80a921c2.jpg

Applejack, on the other hand, did have a fabulous fragrance. this first one is a bit battered from opening in the rain, the second was freshly opened this morning, but unfortunately they only stay looking that nice about an hour.

Lauren.

Sequoia Greenfield. I noticed she doesn't have any pictures on HMF either, so I'll take care of that tonight.

 photo seqoia_zps67a0d76a.jpg

 photo seqoia3_zps14e02e49.jpg

La Belle Sultane. Another truly fabulous fragrance.

 photo labellesultane_zps72aa572e.jpg

Gruss an Coberg, one of my favorites last year. The fragrance seems more intense in the heat of summer that it is right now.

 photo grussancoberg_zps66aeb8ca.jpg
 photo grussancoberg2_zps9b315411.jpg

Zephirine Drouhin, always smelling wonderous.

 photo zephrine_zpsf7a73edd.jpg

That's all I have uploaded to photobucket, which I have to do at home. If I have to keep uploading photos at home and posting them at work this will become troublesome.

Oh, so many pretties! And so many I haven't seen before. Bubblebath really does look bubbly! How cute! And that Applejack is really sweet looking. I may have to look into that one if the fragrance is so good. Thank you for sharing!

Lots of lovelies--and new ones I never heard of before. But that first one--Freddie Mercury--is just too wonderful--love it. Circus, with its similar coloring is nice also.

And you really caught the special delicate, soft beauty of Cecile Brunner--totally charming.

Loving that Geranium red! I'm looking for a red rose for next year, and I like that it is a floribunda. Can you tell me if it is a well rounded bush? Something you could make a small hedge of?
I can definitly see why you are keeping your grafted Letchworth Centenary. Gosh that is a beauty! Wish it grew larger, as I'd add that one to my garden as well.
Lastly, your Alba Suaveolens is beautiful. I don't have any once blooming roses but that one is definitly tempting!
Thank you for taking the time to post these beauties, what fun seeing them all!

So many lovely blooms. Impossible to choose my fave.

Thanks for posting.

RE: More late May roses

Since I grow in containers I'm not sure how Geranium Red would do in the ground, but in the container he's a bit tall and floppy--he's one of those I have staked. Not too sure he'd make a good hedge. Also, while I've not had as much trouble with disease with him as I have several others, most of the mid-century hybrids are notorious for poor disease resistance, so in other areas he might be susceptible to the local parasitic fungus.

RE: More late May roses

Hello KS,

Mind if I ask you about a couple of roses? I rushed in getting the climbers that I "thought" I wanted - Old Blush, Cl and Zephrine Drouhin, Cl. Both have done great in their first year and amaze me with the number of blooms I'm seeing.

But, I'm suspecting that I planted the wrong rose. I needed a tall one to go over the eaves of a house. I'm thinking these two won't. Would you recommend Cecile Brunner, Cl?

Kinda at a loss of what to do. Thanks for your response and for sharing roses that I've never seen in this part of Central Texas.

Xtal

You have a wonderful bunch of roses. My favorite of all is Freddie. I have never seen this rose before. Amazing.
