black roses/deeper reds for bgrose

Bgrose, I thought it'd be fun to post some photos of the dark, dark roses for you because I know that there are some people here who've got some pretty stunning photos. And anyone who has dark red-dark purple-almost black roses for bgrose we'd love to have them here as well.

As I mentioned before, I got a lovely baby band as a gift from Linda from Long Ago Roses to test try to see how it would perform in other climates (how dark the color would end up being in our blasting summer heat, for example).

Well, here is a previous year photo of it....The seedling is called Paso Doble.

I just love this seedling! It is so romantic and lives up to its namesake as well with the black against the red. Paso Doble is a Spanish dance which represents the red against the black cape of a bullfighter and this rose reminds me so much of this as well with the black swirl. It will be awhile before mine will bloom (I received it May 4, 2011). I am crossing my fingers and hovering over it in the meantime. I'm feeding it with lots of Gardenville :D

This rose is so dark and beautiful, I am amazed by this very rich color, so deep dark red with black stripes and edges! The Spanish name suits it very well because this rose is a pure expression of passion and hotness.

Thank you for this special thread dedicated to dark roses. This is a newly discovered passion for me, a new interest, to appreciate the beauty of the dark roses, black, dark red, chocolate color! Truly gorgeous!

Wow!! That's incredible - like the swirl of a flamenco dancer's dress!! I've never seen a rose like it!!

I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures of dark red roses - great thread Serena!

Many thanks Ron, Bgrose, Jim and Carol! I will be sure to let Linda know about everyone's lovely comments about her beautiful seedling :D. I too thought it was soooo gorgeous and unique! Linda is a very sweet person and deserves a winning new hybrid. We are waiting to see how stable the colors will be in different climates/locale. Ron, it's a new seedling that Linda is hoping to eventually enter as a new rose, Paso Doble. So far she's got a few bands from that seedling and they are still maintaining the dark within the dark-black red swirl. Everyone, Keep Your Fingers Triple Crossed for Linda!

Bgrose, black is the only color my James can accept for a rose. My roses drive him crazy, but he did say he could appreciate Paso Doble. The rest of mine could go up in flames as far as he is concerned, lol! He says I have no time for roses and need to stop growing roses, hehe! So if there is a rose to make him change his mind, it'd be Paso Doble....

what gorgeous petal formation and color, Pelicanhead!

At Peter Beales, I got to see a pretty Louis XIV dark black-red rose and looked it up on HMF. It seems very dark and gorgeous too. Does anyone have this type of rose growing in their garden? Photos anyone? It seems like a very beautiful HT with strong fragrance too!!!!

Wow!! MM is the darkest red I've ever seen. Do you know what the parentage is? Gorgeous.

I don't know much about Memphis music. It gets like this in the high heat. It's usually redder with yellow streaked through it.
