I hope I'm the first to say "beautiful, beautiful!" Very luscious blooms and the peonies are outstanding! I can grow neither clematis nor peonies here so I'll just enjoy the shots people post on the forum! Lynn

It's nice that you showed both livin' easy and easygoing. And peonies, wow, that is something I don't see every day.

| Thanks guys, I'm getting to be a huge peony fan. Those have been holding like that for a couple of weeks now. The two toned one is new and those are the secondary blooms. Here's a pic as it bloomed for the first time for me.....

I'm stunned by the 1st bloom on the 2-toned peony. They were amongst my favorite spring bloomers in Oregon. White Eden is plain gorgeous!

The two tone is Chinese, can't remember the Chinese name but the common name is Frosty Dew. I chose it to play off the two colors of the others and it did not disappoint. The peonies share the same bed as the LE and EG. When I went to the rose farm with my list last spring, they didn't have the ones I had called out. I subbed White Eden and last year I was questioning my sanity. But this year it is going gang busters and there are probably 40-50 buds just waiting to open. I don't have a lot of white in my garden and I am tickled with what it is adding.

I've never seen White Eden... It's beautiful!

I purchased Red and White Eden to go up a small arbor. How old is your White Eden? It sounds like your first year with it was rough as far as blooming. Mine seems similar. It has put out some growth, but so far only 1 bud, although I anticipate more since it is only it's first year. It's nice to see more people getting Red and White Eden as they are fairly new roses and I don't see much of them.

Mine was new last year and was quite slow to go anywhere. We had a hideous winter and early spring here this year and it was doing nothing. But boy when the weather turned so did it. It was once a sub for something else but is fast becoming my allstar. When all is said and done, I'm going to be real tickled with it.

White Eden is just beautiful!! I would love to add her to my garden but I doubt it would open here. Thank you for these lovely pictures. Lesley

| Thanks Carol (On the fantastic part) I just have a little ProShot that I click and shoot, the garden does all the work :-) We just ended a record of days w/o rain here last night and got dumped on. I went out to a huge case of rose hangovers this AM. Did manage a couple though..... Outrageous

Thanks Beth, I can't remember the Chinese name but the common one is Frosty Dew.

Gorgeous pictures!! Do you have any of your clematis growing through roses that aren't on any kind of structure? If so, how do they perform? I have some on arbors but wanted to try some mixed in with some of my other roses. Thanks, Judy

Fantastic photos Boxofrox! I especially love the side-by-side peonies and Easy Going and Livin' Easy are looking their beautiful selves once again!

KG, You silly stalker, these are old pics from June. prettypetals resurected the thread to ask about the clematis. I wish they still looked like this ;-)
RE: Roses/Clematis/Peonies

Hi Boxofrox. I too love the White Eden and the Peonies, also the rich pink of you Gertrude Jekyll !
RE: Roses/Clematis/Peonies

Egads! The silly Stalker was asleep (stalker coma)! I would always write on your threads! How could I not have written my trademark stalk earlier! How did the Roses/Clematis/Peonies escape my stealthy Boxofrox-pouncing ways! I can't believe I missed an entire thread???? what's up with that!! LOL, LOL!
RE: Roses/Clematis/Peonies

Could be dozens of excuses but one you must leave out is typingis because that is restricted solely to a malady of the fingures ;-)
RE: Roses/Clematis/Peonies

how about stalker-blind-spot maladitis. I'm still shocked that I missed this entire thread! sheesh! I've lost my stalker edge. hee-hee! Anyway, absolutely lovely, gorgeous retro blooms!

I am still interested in knowing if you planted any clematis that are growing through the rose bush. Judy
RE: Roses/Clematis/Peonies
| | |
I'm sorry Judy, I guess I just thought I didn't have any and forgot to say it ;-) All my clematis are either growing on fences or trellises. Most are mixed with roses though. The fence line that has that White Eden/Hot Cocoa/clematis has a total of 5 climbers and 6 shrubs with a clematis between each one. I want to say there are 10 clematis total there. I also have a clematis growing with an ornamental grape on a trellis as well as two growing with a Joseph's Coat on an arbor. The 10 on the fence line were all new this year so kind of that crawl thang still ;-)
RE: Roses/Clematis/Peonies

Thanks a bunch!! I love seeing clematis and roses growing together but didn't want the clematis to take over my rose bush. Your pictures are always gorgeous by the way! Thanks for sharing all your beauties, Judy

You are welcome. Like others have said, as long as you choose the right low growing variety, you'll be fine. My experience has been that you can easily prune to manage good citizenship ;-)
