Beautiful pics! How does Distant Drums smell? I have been thinking about adding it to the garden. It supposedly smells like licorice.

I'm sure that sweetvenge will respond; but that's a rose that I've had before. I DESPISE the scent. It was so strong and permeated my whole garden. It smelled like myrrh to me. Blech.

You can see that I'm not shy about sharing my opinion LOL! :)

How funny! You may have a super sensitive sniffer. I love the smell of myrrh. I have never had an anise smelling rose, which sounds weird to me.

Honestly I don't remember how Distant Drums smells actually although I believe it was not to unpleasant to my nose. Fragrance of roses isn't a big deal when I consider buying a rose, its more about color for me. I love color and rose with more color in them, more than half of the roses I grow are like two toned as far as color goes like striped roses and the ones that aint two toned just single color are bright and bold for the most part. Although I bought a rose from Euro Desert Roses called Annapurna(believed i spelled that right) that is suppose to be fragrant, won some awards for its fragrance. But for me its about color, color and more color.

That's what I did this year, Rose & different colored daylilies... with some plumeria, angel trumpets, jasmine and Osmanthus throw into the yard... always smells so good!
And can't forget my tomatoes for the summer.... so good~

I saw that daylily and said to myself I bet it's South Seas (a favorite among daylily enthusiasts). Sure enough it is. Nice photos of the Austins in particular like the one of Graham Thomas.
