| Good morning rose lovers! My name is Mike and I just signed up on gardenweb! I've been a plant lover ever since I was in the fifth grade. I loved (and still love) reading anything to do with plants, whether it be a field guide on wildflowers or a thick textbook detailing plant morphology.
So finally, at the age of 20, I decided to start a tiny flower garden. Now I live in Northern Ontario... Our summers are feverishly hot (100F and over in the peak days of July) and our winters are furiously cold (-39F). With weather like this, hybrid tea roses are a rare sight, although our city is graced with a lot of wild roses and cultivated rugosas, I decided I would try my hand in growing hybrid teas. I've only grown two so far, but the blooms which I nurtured have surprised me! The first to bloom was the famous Chicago Peace rose. I understand that as far as northern Hybrid Teas goes, this one is a winner! My rose produced hues that were far more subdued than some of the Chicago Peaces I've seen... It's almost like this rose is housing an entire sunset.
The second was a rose I found... Well, at a grocery store nursery. It's called the Impala and I literally cannot find any information on it. But the color is stunning. I almost lost the bloom due to the outer petals rotting after a rain storm, but I managed to coax the rose into unfurling by gently removing the damaged petals. As a thank you, my little rose bush gave me a flower so plump that it could barely hold it up!

| Mike--There are two Impala's that were introduced by Kordes. The first came out in 2005 and is a orange blend Floribunda, the second one came out in 2008 and is also a orange blend but is a Hybrid Tea.--Hope this helps.(A great shot of this rose.)--Ron |

| So it's a Kordes Rose? I can't seem to find much information on this particular rose except for that... It's not even listed in their catalog. Not as Impala or as KORimala... I wonder why, it's a nice rose! |

| Welcome to Garden Web, Mike! Your roses are lovely! This is what I found at HMF about your rose. It isn't much though. |

| What Beautiful rose photos and welcome to our Gallery for tea and company and wonderful chats! Wow, I had no idea it was so hot in Ontario now! I have a cousin who lives in Toronto and an Uncle and a cousin who live in Newfoundland. One of our favorite rose friends here is Carol from Canada too! |
|
| Well, lately it hasn't been quiiiite so hot, actually it's COLD. But July was a scorcher! The growing season here is very short, sadly... I'm moving to the big city in a week and I certainly hope my older brother will overwinter the roses for me. And thank you all for the warm welcomes! Although I just started, I already know gardening is going to be one of my greatest passions! |

| Thanks Serena!! We sure don't get that hot here!! Thank goodness!! Wow - I love those roses - especially the last one. Good grief that's beautiful!!!!!! I adore that orange!!! My Chicago Peace is way pinker than that - probably because of our cooler summers. Mike - You've picked some beauties to start your foray into the rose world. I'm sure you'll end up with waaaaaaay more than 2 as the years go by!!! WELCOME!!! Carol |
