The picture in the right frame is the regular Mardi Gras, and the two in the left frames are pictures of my sport. Sadly, I was not able to propagate the sport successfully via cuttings. Maybe I should have left it on the bush longer? I did use the pollen from this sport and it has produced a couple of nice hips that are almost ripe. I've heard that sports don't pass on traits easily though, I guess I'll have to wait and see if the seedlings show any stripes.

A stripey!! Too bad you couldn't save it. I wouldn't have a clue on what to do with a sport. :) Quite beautiful!! Carol

Thanks Carol! If you ever do find a sport, keep it on the bush for a while to let it grow out. Sometimes a sport isn't stable, or it will revert back, but either way by growing the branch out you will have a better chance to propagate it. Don't do what I did and try and root it while it is still young lol!

Actually, turns out I might have a sport. Although we've got really cool weather here this summer - so just could be related to the weather. My rose bush Valencia put out a pure yellow flower instead of apricot. I marked the branch with a string so I can keep an eye on what that branch produces. Here's hoping. :)
