| The other day I was walking around the garden, taking pictures of roses. From afar I noticed that something is obstructing the bloom of 'Sterntaler', on closer inspection I found a large Praying Mantis (about 2 1/2"). He was so cute, he moved his head and gave me a loooong look :)
Please take a look at the pictures I've taken in the last couple of days. Brighter colors of 'Lion's Rose'
'White Gold' is absolutely stunning now
Kordes' 'Zaide'
Love deeply cupped flowers of 'Lordly Oberon'
Poulsen's 'Lea Renaissance'
Young bloom of 'Portlandia' looks promising
Austin's 'Potter & Moore'
Hybrid Rugosa 'Ritausma' (aka 'Polar Ice', 'Polareis')
Cheery cluster of 'Mozart'
'Pomponella'
'Crocus Rose'
'Ebb Tide'
'Lyda Rose' with pretty 'eyelashes'
Short lived beauty of 'Martine Guillot'
'Barock' looks so grand
A non-rose. Birch tree. Finally, I've got into shaping up my young tree. I planted it 2' tall 4 years ago. On the photo you can still see the pile of cut branches. Very pleased with the result.
Amanda Beales' 'Ivor's Rose', one of my faves. Broad bush, loads of blooms all season long. Superb disease resistance.
'James Galway'. Love it's ruffled look
Perfect flowers of 'Elizabeth Stuart'
Thank you very much for looking. Marina

| Marina - I love all your pictures. It's a feast to the eyes. I want to eat that White Gold of yours - looks so buttery. Lea Renaissance is great with its geometric pattern. Your James Galway looks better than Austin catalog's. Your pics. are swell. Many thanks. |

| From the voluptuously many petaled to the simple elegance of the singles, they're all gorgeous, Marina! |

| I love the color of Elizabeth Stewart and Barock! Your birc tree also is very pretty. I've always loved their peeling bark! An the praying mantis is so cute! I had one looking in at me from my window at work a few weeks ago. Every time I would tap the glass, she would move her head a little in response :) |

| Awesome photos, Marina! Too many favorites to just pick one or two. I love to find mantises on my roses, too. Thanks for a great post. |
|
| Beautiful photos. Several names I haven't heard of, but my my fave. is the 'Elizabeth Stuart'duo. Love the mantis too. Never seen one in zone 6, as yet. Thanks for sharing your bounty. |

| You have such lovely roses! I'm glad to say I have a young Potter and Moore. Those blooms are something to look forward to! And, great job on the birches; they look so graceful. Ingrid |
|
| Magical and totally graceful roses as always Marina. And I love the praying mantis acrobat pose! Marina, can you tell me how large your Ivor's Rose grows to... Jim thought yours was very lovely! And he tried to look it up elsewhere for growth information, but HMF says 6'7"??? but at Dave's Garden only 36"-48"...He loves your photo of it! I'm also going to ask him if he'd consider your Elizabeth Stuart....His wife hates the standard soft ballet pinks and subtle rose pinks, but maybe she might take an unfading apricot....and definitely Ivor's Rose is a dark enough magenta-pink |

| Dear Serena, First of all, thank you very much for your kind comments. My 'Ivor's Rose' is planted in less than favorable conditions - very heavy red clay, no irrigation, no fertilizer, no nothing :) |

| My my my Marina!! Your roses are lovely. I love each and every one of them. Your foliage looks so good too. Theres so many I have never heard of. Do you mind me asking you what you fertilize with and do you spray for blackspot?? I am always curious what others use and how often and like trying other peoples choices. Thanks, Judy |

| Love the praying mantis pic! Great shots of the roses too! |
|
| So many wonderful roses.... I've read that Martine Guillot has a fragrance like gardenia. Do you like the fragrance of this rose? |

| Thank you very much, Judy and Jim! Judy, I fertilize once a year (at best) with a handful of 10-10-10 and Epsom salt in the spring. Also, if I have anything organic (bought on clearance sale), I add a handful of this, too. That is it. I didn't spray my roses for about five years now. I do have my Black Spot champions here, but some roses show some BS resistance. I can not brag about my roses being free of disease (BS), but it is not crucial. I am still thinking about starting regular spraying program next year (although I made that promise to myself probably for three or four years already). Serena, I tried to make a picture of the bush of 'Ivor's Rose' today. It might look not so well on the picture, but it definitely looks much better in person. Also, I took a good look at the foliage today. It is superb, absolutely clean. Amazing.

| Krista, just today I was passing by my 'Martine Guillot' and took a whiff. I can not confirm that it is a Gardenia fragrance, but the fragrance was very nice, kind of smooth and deep, very complex to my nose to determine a definite note. |

| Thank you, Marina. Your rose collection is outstanding. Martine Guillot sounds like one I need to add to my Wish List! |

| Thanks Marina! I tell myself the same thing every spring and start out on a regular schedule spraying and then once everything starts to pop and theres so much going on I get lazy. Plus having the hot and dry summer we had this year made it impossible too. Me and my excuses. lol!! Thanks again, Judy |
