Crested Sweetheart......oddly beautiful

I snatched this one up when Sequoia was going out of business. This interesting rose from Ralph Moore was a
teensy-tiny ownroot so small I planted it in a 6-inch pot
and hoped the wind wouldn't blow it away. I was flabbergasted when it got up to climbing proportions the very next summer, dwarfing the 7 foot obelisk I planted it
inside. This is zone 4....where only the hardiest of ramblers achieve that stature....and certainly not that quickly from a tiny ownroot. It has amazing vigor and I
had to prune it this summer so it wouldn't outgrow the obelisk....but that only made it grow even more!
Here are the positives....vigorous, hardy, fragrant, with intriguing 'mossy'-like sepals...and very beautiful. The downside is that it does suffer from blackspot late-summer if its not sprayed; and this year there was proliferation of the buds from a record-breaking rainy and cold June. And it is once-blooming only. However, when the weather conditions are more favorable the blooms are perfectly formed and a great conversation piece. And the other downside....I don't even know who sells it now....so if
you like it, it may be hard to come by.
Take a look!

| Wow, CelestialRose, what an unusual beauty! again, another lovely rare and hard-to-find rose. Thanks so much for coming by! I love the sepals, it reminds me of those wonderful whimsical seahorse fins or tropical lagoon sealife. How cool! And what ruffled, layered upon layered petals! FANTASTIC! |

| Celeste, wow, that is really an unusual rose. I have never seen anything like that. The flowers are incredible beautiful and the wired (excuse my language) sepals are very interesting. It is amazing that it has such a vigor in your climate. Ralph Moore has truly bred some awesome roses! Thanks for showing this rose here! Christina |
