Here are two of my best standards. First one, Our Lady of Guadalupe assaulted me with scent when I was leaving Home Depot one day. I got to the car and had to go back and get it. It has huge flushes that come quickly. Not a full size standard but a patio size. Here are a couple of pictures.

Here is Eureka, a full size standard. It is always in bloom and has the most wonderful color. By end of our long season, it is over 3 feet across but it could be kept smaller, I guess.

Don't make the mistake of getting a hybrid tea standard. They grow too big. My Gemini is a prime example. A totally gorgeous rose but the booms are over 6 feet high now! Hope this helps.

I like both the roses, but yellow is always my favorite. Very beautiful blooms.

Can I ask you a question? When I see the rose catalogs, it says either 24" or 36" height. Does that height imply to the shaft only? Does the actual rose grow above that height upto the actual growing habit of the chosen rose?

Yes. That's why it's best to select a compact floribunda instead of a vertical growing HT. The HT's look very odd.

i just wanted to add that I also have a full size standard Julia Child. It is only two years old. It seems to be more compact so far than Eureka. It is a pretty solid yellow rose. It isn't as impressive as Eureka, yet, but Julia is a much loved rose. So it has the potential.

Julia Child is always covered with flowers so I think it would be a good choice for a standard. You have to be more careful with HT standards or they can get lopsided looking.
