Oh, let's see if I can do this from memory...
    Incognito
Winsome (2; both will be gone, the plants are huge, the bloom production non-existent)
    Trickster
    Bee's Knees
    Conundrum
    Butter Cream
    Breath of Spring
Olympic Gold (a big hulking plant in just 2 years)
    Soroptimist International (2)
    Herbie
    Erin Alonzo
    Dr. John Dickman
    Vista
    Ruffian

I know I'm forgetting a couple currently resting in the garage.

Gingerbread Man didn't make it through last spring, I may get another, it was cute. Winter Magic wasn't winter hardy for me, I tried twice. Same with Hot Tamale, but others around here have had better luck with it. I've also tried Ferrin (huge plant, huge blooms) and Tangerine Twist (nice colors), each lasted two seasons. I'll try TT again.

Too many to list so I will just give you the total so far: 378
No joke! They must be multiplying like rabbits. I guess it doesn't seem so bad when they are scattered hither and yon in the garden...in pots...hanging in trees...growing down fence lines or up fence walls. Don't ask how many big roses are out in the jungle.

I only still have about half of these. Sadly, even minis take up space in my micro-yard. : (
And I can't help always wanting to try new ones.
On the plus side, my friends and neighbors think I'm quite generous with rose bushes. lol

  • michelle_co

I planted most of these last year. Some overwintered in the coldframe. I am interested to see who survived. :-)

    Applause
    Bambino
    Minnie Pearl
    Moonlight Scensation
    Overnight Scensation
    Pam Tillis
    Peach Delight
    Red Cascade
    Red Sensation

Hopefully this is their leap year.

    For this year:
    Suprise Suprise
    Sweet Chariot
    Leading Lady
    Valentines Day Cl

Valentine's Day keeps getting sunburned as I try to harden it off in a semi protected location on warm days. Not sure what's up with that. It's indoors at night.

I am not going to list all I grow, but I do grow about 25 mini and mini-flora's. I prefer the mini-flora size of bloom the best, and I prefer the exhibition high center form over the decorative garden type pompon style of bloom. I just ordered eight more from Almost Heaven and 3 more from Bridges. Included is a second Dr. John Dickman because one plant just is too stingy to produce enough of the beautiful blooms you get from DJD.

    Hi all,
Wow, I thought I was obsessed with roses, but I have nothing compared to some of you!!! I am still trying to make up my mind to place my order!! They are all so beautiful and I don't have too much room! My back yard has to be all potted since all I have is my stone deck surrounding my pool. Sometimes I think my yard is a jungle, too. I just tried spraying my existing roses with an environmentally friendly mildew preventer. I hope it works, because it looks as though we may get some early June gloom along the coast here. Wish me luck. I love reading everyone's messages with all the helpful suggestions. Now for a new question ----any suggestions for a beautiful micromini????
    Good luck everyone!

  • michelle_co

    Hi,

The only micro I have is Bambino - but I would like to add to my collection. Bambino is a flowering fool. I was suprised how much I liked it. :-)

My experience with Nor East is that everything I've bought (~24 plants) has all been very good. I would not hesitate to try any of their offerings, though I do try to stick with the hardier selections for my climate.

    Cheers,
    Michelle

  • mike_in_new_orleans

Rosie Grower, I have limited space, too. About micro-minis, I don't think Absolutely is listed as "micro," but it's certainly on the small side. I didn't realize that from the catalogs. The photos are such close-ups and the form so detailed, I thought surely the blooms were bigger. lol But the little gems are only about 1" for me, and the plant stays small. I've had mine a year and a half and it's only a foot tall. Great disease resistance and reliable bloom. The color combinations keep changing, too, which adds interest. Good luck with your search!

if anyone could be so kind as to help me out i would really apriciate it. i live in zone 9 and would like to start some mini roses in a planter.... do they tend to do well in planters? and what's the general care of these? i'm new to growing any type of rose really and would apriciate some experianced advise. thanks

  • lesdvs9

Dave, Yes minis would do very well in planters. I think you need to post this though on a new thread and not hidden here in an old one that folks aren't looking at. I grow minis primarily in the ground so I'm not much help to you. You're in a perfect climate, just when you repost your thread you might mention a more general area you're in zone 9, like I'm central CA. Are you CA or Fl? There are on the regular forum quite a few threads going on this topic now. Please repost there and you'll get the help you're looking for. Welcome to mini rose growing in pots.

    Hi Organic Dave4567,

I have a lot of my roses in planters and pots. Mine in the planters do nicely. I love Hot Tamale, Baby Grand, Lavender Crystal, and love, love, love Vista. Vista is a beautiful hybrid tea form mini and the colors are beautiful, if you like the lavenders. Make sure you get enough sunlight. I'm certainly not the expert, but I've been trying for the last 5 years. Good luck, nothing more beautiful than watching beautiful roses growing!

  • joet1485

I only have 9. Black Jade, Jennifer, Singles Better, Minnie Pearl, Denver Sunset, Rainbow's End, Red Cascade, Cupcake, and a mauve I can't remember the name of. How do all of you all take care of so many bushes? I actually have all but RC in pots. I put them in bagged topsoil with about two inches of composted manuer on top then in March I put in granulated rose food a tablespoon per pot. They have come out better than ever and will bloom in the next week or two. I water them every day or two and this helps. When they were in the ground I had problems getting down to their level to work with them because of arthritis.

I have close to 100 minis and Mini-Floras. My favorite is the Mini-Flora Autumn Splendor. It is a very vigorous plant that always has a few beautiful blooms showing and more getting ready to open.

    One ... 'Rise-N-Shine'.
The others have long since been dug up and thrown away due to being blackspot martyrs.

I do have three 'Pacific Serenade' on order from Nor'East. And may eventually add 'Sweet Chariot', which I have seen growing around my town and looking healthy.

OK, it's safe for me to say I am completely overwhelmed and amazed by the number of roses some of you grow.

I have always admired those little mini roses, but they scared me to death. All I could see is their little lives shortened within weeks of them coming to live at my house.

I would like to start growing some mini's. Where do I start? What varieties are tried and true aka easy to grow, in S. Louisiana? How old do they need to be to survive planting directly in the ground? Can they live out their lives in pots? So many questions.

To start, can you recommend some that would be easy to begin with and how I should grow them, i.e., pots or ground? Also, can roses survive and bloom growing inside in say a S. facing window or one that gets lots of morning sun?

    Thanks for your help.

    Brutuses

Growing minis is no harder than growing regular roses. I have both and I treat them all the same. The trick is to get minis from a good vender. The minis everyone has listed come from either online rose nurseries or from local resale nurseries. I bought mine from Nor'East Miniatures, Ashdown Roses, and Allmost Heaven Miniatures. I got started with the mins by winning a mini-flora as a door prize from our local rose society and as you can see from the list below I have added a few since.

All my minis, mini-floras, and the majority of my other roses are all grown in pots. They need to be outside with 6-8 hrs of sun. Although I have a few that can take less sun (4-5 hrs). A few people have grown the supermarket roses indoors, but I have not done so.

Here is my mini and mini-flora list:
    Edisto
    Mobile Jubilee
    Molly
    Starina
    Scentsational
    Breath of Spring
    Shirley Raye
    Bordure Narcree
    Blue Mist
    Earthquake Climbing
    Nancy Jean

rosenpots, thanks so much for the information. I will investigate those links and those roses. Can't wait to get some growing. One more question, are some mini's more suseptible to disease like some other larger varieties? Are there certain varieties that grow better in the south with the high humidity and extreme temps? Thanks again for your help.

Oh yes there are roses that are better than others depending on where you live. In the humid south and mid atlantic where I am, black spot is a problem. But with the right roses it can be little to no problem. One observation I have found is the older a rose gets the better some do against disease. Most of my minis are a year or two old so the jury is still out. But so far so good.

You did not say which state you are in. but I would highly suggest finding the local rose society in your area as they would know the best roses to grow in your area.

I have a collection of Award of Excellence Roses. I have been collecting them since 1982.

If you add miniflora roses to the mini list I have 262 of them.
I will not print the list here, but go to helpmefind.com/roses and look up my name and then hit garden and there is my total list. I have 465 total roses!
