2008 - what have you ordered?

Yesterday I ordered:

Edisto, Jennifer, Jean Kenneally, Jilly Jewel, Sunswept, and Kristin.

Today I'm thinking about adding Irresistible.

What have you ordered for 2008?

Actually with Sequoia Nursery going out of business I went down there on the 3rd and picked mine up. I got:
Love And Peace, Lemon Pearls, Amber Gem, Condoleezza, My Best Friend, Vineyard Song, Blue Magic and Irene Marie. I picked up another Julie Link and Sweet Chariot for a friend. Sitting out there to plant also end of Feb or so is Adams's Smile, Dancing Flame, Grace Seward and Rainbow's End.

My order from Nor'East arrived on Wednesday. I now have Jennifer, Remembering Dee, Double Gold, Madeline Spezzano, Tyrelle, and Show Stopper under the grow lights in the garage, waiting for springtime.

Ordered for just me? Hmmm, Bees Knees, Chattooga and Dr. Troy Garrett on fortuniana. Another 5o minis are in various stages of move-up from rose society events for other rose society events. Technically, they aren't mine.. just MY soil, MY water, MY time and MY containers, lol.

This fall I added Leading Lady, Bonfire, Liberty Bell, This is the Day, Sam Trivitt and replaced Irresistible and Michael Cholet which both succumbed to heat and water stress.

Irresistible succumbed to heat? Did fine for me in our 100's, it also sits in a full sun spot and it was a new rose planted in Mar. I'm sorry about that.

I'm glad not to have to be planting or potting all those roses this year, I did around that many last year. At sitting at only the 12 to have to plant, so far:)

You all have some very nice roses. I hope you'll share some pics come summer.

Irresistable was 6-7 yrs old when it died so it took a considerable amount of heat and waited 'til we'd logged 31 days of 110F+ before it crapped out. That's pretty good mileage for anything sitting in an oven that long, lol.

    So far:

From Sequoia: Buttermint, Twilight Skies, Anne Marie de Montravel, Tangerine Jewel, Green Ice, Vineyard Song, Julie Link.

I have some non-mini's ordered also from other nurseries. I just received an oh so helpful email from Hortico also reminding me that I am paying freight for four roses even though I only have one ordered. In case I get the urge to order three more. Which could definitely happen:)

I really have to say thanks to Leslie (lesdvs9) for all her able assistance and information regarding which roses to look at from Sequoia. A terrific help!

    Kate

Also for what it is worth I am trying to find Sequoia Twist which no one seems to have at this point. I waited too long to try and get it from Sequoia Nursery. If anyone wants to sell a rooted cutting I will gladly pay for it plus all shipping costs.

I have ordered Jennifer, Red Scentsation, Sachet and Seattle Scentsation from nor'east mini roses.

    My mini rose orders are:

    Rachel
    Abby's Angel (2)
Always a Lady (for a pot)
    Leading Lady
    Little Carol
    Solar Flair

I noticed quite a few people ordering Jennifer. I want that one too, but need to see if I can keep Always a Lady alive over the winter before I try Jennifer. From experience, I know these two are very tender in my garden. I'm thinking of a greenhouse for the back to keep tender roses in over the winter. I don't know if I'll do it this year or next though.

Well, strictly speaking my mother ordered them for me, seven orange (yay!) minis for my birthday from Heirloom: Orange Honey, Amber Sunset, Ms Mary, Saluda, Cricket, Happy Thoughts, and Mighty Mo (a micro). I've just potted all of them except for Orange Honey, which will go in a hanging basket tomorrow.

My brother just referred to them as the Seven Dwarves.

Sungarden, we will have to compare notes as the growing season continues, as I ordered from Heirloom Roses as well, Orange Honey, Happy Thoughts, and Amy Rebecca from Heirloom and Peter Pan, an apricot rose and Michel Cholet from John's miniature roses. The roses from Heirloom are potted up and are gowing nicely, Ihave not received my order from John's yet.

I just hope they can stand the western exposure this summer.

From Sequoia, before the nursery closes, this year I ordered:
3- "Pink Frostfire"(I already have "Frostfire" -a red rose that can get white flecks.). I had asked for "Pink Frostfire" last spring and they kindly made copies for me. "Frostfire" and "Pink Frostfire" were two of Ralf's lost roses that they found again.
1 each- "Frosty", "Little bit of Sunshine", "Surprise Surprise" and "Watercolor".

I can only hope Texas A&M University makes Ralf's roses commercially available.

This is what I have ordered from Rosemania--

    1. Aberlady
    2. Conundrum
    3. Arcanum
    4. Whirlaway
    5. Caledonia

We'll see if I have luck with any of them. I see where someone got Dr. Troy Garrett on fortuniana? Wow, I have it on it's own roots, and it was great last year...

    "Sequoia Twist" is available at:
    http://www.cottagefarmsdirect.com/
    information found on:
    http://www.helpmefind.com/
a very good rose information resource.

I hope my "Sequoia Twist" survives, it is still under almost 2 feet of snow. It sits in my garden next to "Sequoia Gold".

I just added two more roses to my Sequoia order, "Tea Party"(from 1972 commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party in 1973, not the Mad Hatter tea party from Alice in Wonderland.) and "Kathy"(a pretty red rose from 1970).

    I also ordered from Rosemania:
    Aberlady
    Conundrum
    Foolish Pleasure
I hope these are disease free of PM when they arrive.

Would there be any mini's suited to a zone 4b, and if yes, are they available at anyplace on-line that ship to Canada ?

    Hi bloomorelse,
We all must deal with the conditions in the zones we live in. I grow minis in Cleveland, zone5a to zone6b. I use winter protection and am able to grow any mini rose I Like.

Because of all the wet weather we had this year I decided to bring my 84 potted minis into the garage on March 17th. My garage is attached to the house and it never freezes inside.

This year, for the first time, I used three really cheap shop light fixtures strapped to an old ladder laying across saw horses in my garage for an early start. In the shop lights I use one cool white neon bulb and one warm white neon bulb for a better light spectrum. Six new bulbs cost me only $12. I already have leaves started on half my minis and the buds open on the rest. I do put them in the sun on warm days for an extra boost.

I also uncovered the roses planted outside and I recovered them with clear plastic I saved after painting the house. The plastic helps the roses stay dry and they are opening their buds a month early.

In Canada you can mail order miniature roses from Classic Miniature Roses. They have a huge selection of mini roses; but sadly, they do not ship to the states.

Wow cuyahogakid, they have a large selection. Thanks so much. They don't give as much information on the roses as I'd like, being a newbie to minis, but I guess I could google the ones I'm interested in elsewhere.

I am very interested in some of the minis from http://www.theheatherfarm.com/roses.htm, but I see that they are shipped in only 3 1/2 inch pots. Would they even have a chance of getting to a decent size this year.

    Hi bloomorelse,
You will be surprised at how fast those minis can grow. Re-pot them into one gallon containers(that is big enough for the first year) as soon as you get them; use clean potting soil or mix 1/3 peat-moss, 1/3 sand, 1/3 topsoil. Do not fertilize the first month. Be careful small containers can overheat the roots in the summer sun. Digging in the containers in the garden keeps the roots cool and saves roses.

The first year keep them in pots. I like to use one gallon plastic pails because they can sit inside each other. You bury the empty pails in the garden. The roses are now a snap to move in and out. I use this method when I overwinter them.

The second year, you can replant into the ground or larger containers. Larger containers require less care.

Read the Forum for techniques on overwintering mini roses.

Here are the ones I am ordering. I know it's late, but hopefully they still have them in stock and that I can keep them alive over the winter here:
Magic Carrousel, Cheese Cake, Cup Cape, Starina, Cafe Ole, Irresistible and Teddy Bear.
    Thanks for enabling

If I really listed all the mini's and micro's I have purchased this year I would be greatly embarrassed. Maybe a little obsessive compulsive disorder going on here? My husband certainly thinks so! Any way, with Sequoia closing I feel I have to purchase some of the harder to find roses before they disappear. I also have ordered from NorEast Roses, and John's.
When the Uncommon Rose closed I lost a wonderful source of roses. I hate that Sequoia is going the same way.

I will really miss Sequoia Nursery also, they're my candy shop at a couple miles down the road:( The roses should start blooming about now, I'm going to make a last visit next week.
