Minis for Mom in CA?

My Mom's b-day is coming up. She lives in the hills outside LA. I've had plants sent to her before, mostly amaryllis, which she likes to plant out in the yard and has had pretty good luck with.

When I mention I grow roses she always says she'd never try because they're too much "work". But Proflowers has some nice minis in pots I could send. Of course, for the money I could order her five from a nursery online.

Any recommendations for an easy, disease resistant, not too thorny, small to medium sized mini for her area? That way she could grow them in pots or in the ground, whatever she prefers.
