Naming of Rise 'n' Shine

Years ago I heard (or read) that Mr. Ralph Moore offered to name his yellow mini after a morning TV show host but she refused. Does anyone remember her name? The date of registration for Rise 'n' Shine is 1977 if that helps.

My only guess would be Jane Pauley, that would be about the right time. How about sending him an e-mail?

Jane Pauley rings a bell. If so, she probably regrets her decision now that Rise 'n' Shine has been inducted into the Miniature Rose Hall of Fame and I had trouble remembering her name. I just e-mailed Sequoia and will let you know their response.

If it was Ms. Pauley, she eventually gave permission for someone else to use her name for an orange blend (looks red to me) HT.

Guess I was confused about the celebrity. Sequoia indicated it was an Olympic skater:

"The rose was going to honor Dorothy Hammel, the ice skater which won a gold medal. She declined, and then the rose was named Rise N' Shine due to the yellow color."

I think Rise 'n' Shine is a great name for a great rose.
Thanks for your input.

I say thank you Dorothy

Rise'n'Shine fits this rose so much better.

I agree, Rise-N-Shine is the better name of the two. It fits this rose much better.

gnabonnand & others, how disease resistant is Rise n' Shine for you? I live in Dallas/Fort Worth. My plant just finished its first flush, lost all blooms and I realized it has few leaves due to BS. I am thinking about replacing it with some other buttery yellow mini. A nearby My Valentine seems to be holding up better but it still has lots of blooms which cover most leaves.
