climbing Pearl

i have to comment on a fairly new miniature climber called pearl.(not to be confused with Climbing Pearly Gates). i bought this newcomer last march and planted it into a medium sized pot alongside my trellis.(that also has a Viking Queen growing up the other side.) in one season this rose grew to virtually the same height as my Viking which has been five years in that spot.

it didnt produce a lot of bloom in that first season, but i never expected it too. i have never seen a plant grow that fast in my life, and it is looking real promising for the coming season. it even has a slight fragrance.

i would recommend anybody trying this rose out if they can find it; 8 feet in six months is remarkable, in a pot to boot.

does anybody else grow this rose?

I could not find this mini on HMF. They did have a mini named Pearl but it was not a climber. Could it be the same rose but as a climber? Where did you get yours from?

yes i noticed that it wasn't on there either. i think it is a new release as of last year so it may not be in the database. i got mine from select roses in Canada. it might be a Warriner release.

I just did some checking on this rose. Brad Jalbert from Select tells me the code name is Chewpearl. This is a rose that was originally introduced in 1999 by its hybridizer, Chris Warner, as Star Performer. In 2007 Nor'East started selling it as Pink Above All. Select decided to call it Pearl. This use of different commercial names for the same rose causes a lot of confusion. However, if you follow the code name you can always keep it straight.
