roses from Valentine basket

| In another thread I asked about mold on Valentine roses. I separated the plants in the basket and washed the roses in soapy water. They were quite root bound and water was not penetrating a portion of the soil. I got three tropicals and 8 roses. There is still a bloom on one and the scent is lovely.
Now all I have to do is keep the roses alive for 2 months until I can put them outside. I expect I'll have to wash them in soapy water at least once if not twice a week. |

| The roses are still alive. At least half the leaves dried up and I trimmed them. I have been watching the water closely. I let them get a little dry and the leaves perked up when I gave them some water. So, the plants are responsive and some have new growth. I haven't had to wash them again; but, I am watching for bugs and mold. Only two months before I can plant them out. :) |

| The roses have been in a semi heated (stays above 0C)green house since April 13. They developed powdery mildew again and I washed them in dish soap and baking soda. Hopefully, they will survive until I get them out. Will powdery mildew be a problem in the garden? I don't want to have to dig them up to wash in the sink. :) |

| It might be, depends on weather. Cool, damp, usually means PM. When they are planted, you can rinse them with garden hose or use a hand spray bottle to apply the dish soap/baking soda mixture. Also, a 10% solution of milk in water (1 part milk to 9 parts water) is said to work, but I haven't tried it. So far, so good! |

| The minis are about to go in the garden. One is in bloom (below). If someone can identify it? :) The bloom is a little less than 2" across and mildly fragrant. mini bloom mini rose |
