buds dying

| I have 4 mini rose bushes in front that I got in the fall, when I got them they budded but the buds died. I posted at the time and chalked it up to them being newly planted and such. However, now they have doubled to tripled in size and they all have buds, I can see the petals have formed but they never open and the petals turn brown as if they are dying. They have full sun, (zone 8)and regular watering. Does anyone know what could cause this? It's happening on about 4 plants, they all came from the same container.
Let me know if there is anything else I forgot to mention that might help. |

| How wet is the soil? Are the buds dry and brown or mushy and brown? Any frosts or cold weather? Rain? If it has been wet, then they may be suffering from a fungal disease called botrytis, which causes the petals to turn mushy. You can try removing the outer petals to see if this helps. The other option is to spray a fungicide before the sepals (green covering) of the buds open. |

| Diane, thanks for your help. They are dry and brown. We haven't had any frosts or rain recently. I would say that the soil isn't oversaturated in any way. I'll try the fungicide, anything you recommend? |
