Egg Shells, banana peelings etc.

I read that people put egg shells in the soil for their roses. How does this help them and do you just crumble them up and put them in the dirt? I also read about banana peelings What are some other things that are good and why. Thank you.

Egg shells can add Calcium to the soil as they compost.
Banana peels add Potassium to the soil as they compost.
If you have little garden friends such as squirrels or racoons, it is best to grind the peels up quite fine and bury them unless you want the critters to dig up the plants you put the peel around.
