Popcorn or Gourmet Popcorn?

Could anyone tell me how to tell the difference between "Popcorn" and "Gourmet Popcorn"? I ordered "Gourmet" from a supplier to replace my poor bush that died when I tried to move it from one home to another. The small plant I received seems similar to the one I had but the leaves are lighter green and not glossy like the ones that were on my deceased plant. The flowers seems to have a few less petals. Could I have received a mislabelled plant or will this small plant change as it gets older? Can anyone help?

Gilli

I have a young Gourmet P. from Weeks Roses and it definitely has much smaller blooms, leaves, and clusters than I've seen on established plants.

    Cheers,

I can tell you it won't stay small!!! Mine is 5'high by 4'wide. The leaves are a lighter green.

Mine is still a little thing. Probably building a huge root system before it marches on the rest of the bed and conquers all. :-)

My old one that died was about 3 years old and had reached about 3' x 3'. I'm hoping this one will perform as outstandingly as my old one. It sure seemed to thrive in our hot summers and cold winters. I'm in south central British Columbia.

Hi, I have had both. The Gourmet Popcorn looks more like a piece of popped popcorn. The popcorn looks like a single rose. Right now I have popcorn. I got it from Moore's in Visalia, CA. It's one of my favorite mini rose bushes.

This one certainly looks more like a single rose than my old gourmet popcorn did. That's what makes me think it was mislabelled. Right now, it doesn't smell as strongly as my old one either.

    Our Gourmet Popcorn
    {{gwi:1206562}}
is 6 years old. It is 3 x 3 right now and will easily get 4+ x 4+ by season's end. The rascal was a tiny thing when we got it from Tiny Petals. We haven't grown Popcorn but understand it stays smaller.

GP isn't a stinker here. It has a nice fragrance but it isn't strong. I don't recall much fragrance at all the first year. How long has your GP been planted?????

Gourmet Popcorn is a somewhat larger sport (mutation) of Popcorn, and the blooms do have a few more petals. The foliage should be about the same on both.

I grow Gourmet Popcorn and it is very nice in my area.

My GP has only been in the ground about 2 months. Its only about 8" tall so it is a young plant. I'm sure it will look different when it grows up a bit. Your photos are lovely. Isn't it a beautiful rose? My old bush have a marvelous fragrance which, on warm days, you could smell from a good 15 feet away. I hope this one does just as well.

How is your GP faring? Is it popping gourmet blooms out yet? In the last couple weeks, mine has started to look true to form. It's not a large bush yet, but the blooms are looking pretty sweet (finally!).

    Cheers,
    Michelle

Mine is still very small. Probably still only 8 inches tall. The blooms still look like tiny little singles.
