Miniature Roses

Want to breed my own minis

I just can't find the right yellow mini, so I got it into my head to try and breed my own. But I just don't know if there are any legal problems with using my existing plants as parents. One of two of my minis are trademarked and I haven't taken cuttings from them because the tags that came on them stated that "unlawful propogation is prohibited," so how do I know which minis are okay to breed and which aren't. This whole business of trademarking and patenting roses is getting pretty complicated.

All of them are OK to breed from. Unlawful propagation is taking cuttings. Try the rose hybridizer's forum.

You can use the POLLEN from any rose, or use ANY rose as a seed parent regardless of the patent or trademark without any difficulty. Where the problem comes in is when you start to propagate those protected plants. As OLROSER mentioned, check out the rose hybrider's forum. A good resource for breeding your own.
