What could be wrong with this rose?

My mother has one of those supermaket minis planted in a big pot. The problem is that it has long spindly growth that just doesn't look right, kind of like when thay are stretching towards the sun, but it is already in full sun so that's not it. It has beautiful bright pointed HT form yellow buds and flowers, and seems otherwise healthy. Could it be that it just needs to be cut shorter?

Yes, it could need to be pruned a little more. How big is the pot?

Maybe too much fertilizer?

I have another issue.. my climbing rose for some reason or another the leaves are turning yellow and dying on part of it. It has been in the ground in the same spot for 4 years now with no problems until now. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
