Caliente & Merlot

| What can anyone tell me about Merlot & Caliente long-term? I have one of each - and each plant is not yet a year old. Down the road I only have a spot for one of them - so which plant? So far, Caliente has taken off much more quickly, blooms much more heavily, and from what I have read will be a smaller bush (that could be a plus). On the other hand, I actually prefer the look of Merlot's flowers and it has been a much healthier plant for me (I do not spray at all). Merlot is however, a much smaller plant (it's seemed slow to grow) and has been stingier with the blooms. Merlot also is more of an upright "stick" with blooms on top while Caliente a much fuller bush. Long-term, can anyone tell me if Merlot eventually will fill out and be an attractive bush? Or is it Caliente hands-down? As you can tell, I do prefer some aspects of Merlot over Caliente - but the attractiveness of the over-all plant is very important to me. Any one have their own experiences with these two plants? |

| It took at least 3 years for my Merlot to really start performing. This year she is finally doing quite well and has filled out. I don't grow Caliente so I can't give you a comparison. |
