Jeanne Lajoie....in cold zones

For those of you who grow JL in colder zones, how tall/big does it get for you? I am planning on planting 2 on an 8 foot fence. I was told to give it width of at least 6 feet?

Also, how much winter die back do you get? I do not winter protect my climbers other than blow leaves aroung their bases.

I have tried 3 zone 5 Maine here none ever lived through the winter. And I did winter protect them. I have tried many minis and none live to see the spring for me. I gave up on minis.
