Hi

I've bought a Rose Cascade. I wasn't looking for a rose but i saw her and she called to me. Anyway, I have couple of ?'s.

How tall does she get? I've read 6"-8" and 2'-4'
how/when do I prune her?

Thanks so much!

Dale

Red Cascade's a climber -- or can also be a spreading groundcover. Look on the nor'east rose website -- they don't sell roses any longer but have information about them, and photos! I have red cascade too, bought it in July, waiting for a bloom.. let us know how it's doing! Debbie

Ditto what Debbie said. My Red Cascade is still a baby and I am planting it in a hanging basket. A friend of mine grows RC in a hanging basket and it looks great as the canes will trail over the sides of the pot. I have a ground cover rose in a basket and I really like the look.

ooh, Red Cascade in a hanging basket -- there's a thought... maybe I should move mine...Liz, if you ever have the chance, post a photo!!

Mine's in a rock garden. Hope it trails around the rocks and finds its way to Sequoia Gold, Tiddly winks, Rose gilardi and Live wire, somewhat nearby...am happy that it seems to be branching out.

Dale

A great place to find out info on any rose is on HelpMeFind/roses. I have added the link to the Red Cascade page.

Here is a link that might be useful: Red Cascade

Hi Dale, I have Red Cascade also but it's a baby. HelpMeFind/roses.com is a great source of info, I use it a lot!
The info below is what I put in my mini info file. (Some of it may be redundant)

Red Cascade-
*Tiny perfect fully double, deeply cupped miniature roses. A resilient, no-spray rose in Central Florida that is not at all picky about its soil. Though it defoliates a bit during the winter, its spring flush is remarkably lush. Blooms in flushes throughout the summer and fall. Though it's marketed as a groundcover rose, I think it's best growing up through a support of some kind so that its flower can be appreciated. I keep mine at 4 feet, but my guess is that it would grow to around 6’.

To class a 15 ft (4.5m) rose as a miniature seems ridiculous, but 'Red Cascade' is diminutive in everything but the length of its canes. The leaves are small, leathery, and dark green, and the flowers, which measure just an inch (2.5cm) across, are a dark, rich red. This rose is outstandingly vigorous: fast-growing and in bloom virtually all season, this rose thrives even in less than ideal circumstances. It's equally effective as a cascading shrub or climbing a pillar or fence.

Plant Type: Miniature Climber
USDA Zones: 5 to 10
Height: 12 to 18 inches
Width: 6 feet
Bloom Size: 1 inches
Petal Count: 26-40

Red Cascade (Pat. #3962) Moore.
A prostrate or cascading climber. Excellent for hanging baskets, ground cover, or on a wall. Blooms are most prolific after the plant reaches full size. A remarkably useful landscape rose. Ht. 1' x 5' wide. 1976 Award of Excellence.*

Mine is now 6 X 6 feet at five years of age, scrambling up into taller shrubs adjacent to it. An excellent rose.

I found her alone in the middle of a disheveled she was in bloomb. For those who don't have flowers yet...it's worth the wait. Her flowers are a beautiful color and the shape is pristine.
Everyone seems to be going the hanging or climbing route. I'm using her as a groundcover hmmm.
Thanks for the details allison64.
I went to HMF and got some good info. As far as her height...i'm getting a lot of different estimations. I guess i'll just wait and see what happens. And pruning...i think I’ll follow shrub and groundcover standards’ and cut back in the late winter
Thanks!!

Dale.

I am liz's friend who has it as a hanging basket. It is in one of the very large baskets and it seems to love it there. I bought mine on ebay :). It is 2 years old and the canes hang down to the ground. I got the idea from the noreast site which said it was suitable for a hanging basket. The 6 x 6 scares me.

BTW it is very very easy to root. Liz got hers because I broke a small branch off by accident when I was trimming dead stuff off and so I stuck it in the dirt next to the mama. It stuck! LOL. It has a reputation for being easy to root but that is ridiculous!
