Nidia Parade miniature rose

I purchased Nidia Parade miniature rose, introduced by Poulsen Roser A/S from Trader Joes. I couldn't resist the rich red color and deep green leaves.
(Edit: Actually, this rose is Gigi⢠Parade, as confirmed by the grower, Rocket Farms and by Poulsen Roser A/S who introduced the rose. My mistake. Both Nidia⢠and Gigi⢠look similar. Wish I could edit the title of this post)!

My purchase came with 4 seedlings in a four inch pot, so I divided it into two and gave one pot to a friend. I bought the 12 inch pots from the 99 cent store. What a bargain :)
Is it okay that I divided it in half instead of separating all 4 plants? Can two plants be grown together?

That's fine, Jasmine. I used to try and separate them but they usually died when I tried so I don't separate them at all any more and they do great. That a nice stripe!

Thanks Seil! I won't divide it then.

Here is the info on Gigi from the Poulsen Roser website.

oh wow that is so beautiful. I will be looking out for this one at TJs.

I have a light apricot Poulsen and planted it in the ground last year but too much shade stunted its growth. I moved to a sunnier location and it is doing better now. These mini Poulsens look are so cute and compact. Mine wasn't fragrant at all when I bought it but now I can detect a medium scent.

That is extremely beautiful. Is it resistant to black spots?

Jujujojo, sorry, I don't know very much information about this rose. In my area, we don't usually have problems with black spot. I'm interested to see how resistant it is to powdery mildew, rust and extreme heat. The leaves look healthy so far. In the Madrid, Spain rose trials (May 23, 2014), Gigi won a Certificate of Merit. How well Gigi will do here, only time will tell. At $5.00 for four seedlings per pot, I figure it is well worth the risk. The color reminds me of rubies :)

Musaboru, I detect a mild to moderate scent with this rose. Maybe raspberry?

Almost had a break down when Trader Joe's 's had none (JK). Luckily for me the Von's down the street had just one. I'm so glad you posted this because this rose variety hit all my good spots and should satisfy my plant lust for the time being. I detect a scent very mild kinda like some florist roses. I wonder if this one will become more scented once established outdoors.

One has to grow rose to understand how strong and vigorous the plant is. Rose roots are far stronger than gardenia and azaleas.

Nice Gigi rose Jasmine. I can't wait to see more pics of it from you. I currently have one, but don't know how it will turn out.

My husband bought me a small planter at our local supermarket. I kept in the restroom I guess the steam kept them moist. I moved them out of the restroom and they died within a couple of days. I wish I could find another planter!

Last week I bought 2 mini roses that look just like the pix above from Kroger for $1.99. I hope they will be hardy for my area. No tags of any kind, not even a generic care tag. I also bought a pink one with a lavender one in the pot!!! That is what happens sometime when they put 3 plants per pot. AND I am going back for a white one. Sadly they didn't have yellow. My plan is to plant them in a little larger pot to winter them over. Then in the spring I will find a more permanent place for them. I am happy! I do much better with minis than the big girls! Rosie

Rosie, are you going to overwinter them in a sheltered location? I tried the lavender one twice at different times of the year. One didn't make it through my winter and one didn't make it through my summer. It must not be as hardy as the others. My red stripe (Gigi) and my yellow are doing well. Best wishes for yours.

I haven't grown Gigi but I had a minor I that was 4 ft tall . Mi.I just means Blossom size not plant size.

Your Gigi must be a thing of beauty when it is in bloom

Yes. It was pretty when it was blooming. I just bought it a month ago. Its not blooming now. I have 4 plants in a 10"pot.

Should i split them up, or will they be ok in the one pot? They were in a 4"pot when i bought them.

I tried splitting 2 and ended up killing one

So , I would leave them and get a bigger pot eventually.
