Pruning my mini climber

Hi,

I recieved an unknown mini climber at a plant swap last fall. Being a mini I figured it wouldn't get that big. Boy was I wrong. I planted my new pet in my perennial bed this spring at the base of a 4' obelisk. When it started to outgrow the obelisk, I weaved it in and out. Over the summer my 'mini' has grown at least 10' outside the obelisk and it's taking over my perennial bed!! It has far outgrow my New Dawn that was planted on a 12' trellis 2 years ago.

Obviously, it has to be moved to a new home so I'll have to cut it back. When's the best time to do this? Btw, now I understand...the ROSES are mini, not the vine.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you~
