Old rambling rose ID

I have several of these roses growing along an old fenceline but I'm not sure what they are. I know they are at least 35 yrs old and maybe older. They seem to be growing perfectly fine in deep shade. Any ideas? (sorry if the pic is small but it kept making me downsize it)

Looks very much like Evangeline to me.

That could be it. The only other one I found that looks like it is called "Eglantine".

It looks deeper pink than Eglantine in your pic. Also, I didn't see the notch in the petal that Eglantine has. How's the fragrance?

Sorry! I just noticed I cut off my last sentence when I posted my reply. I was going to say if the leaves are fragrant, it's a dead giveaway that it is Eglantine.

The flowers are lightly fragrant, not super strong like some roses today. The foliage is not fragrant when crushed, it has the typical green smell. It seems to sucker because I see sprouts 3-4ft away from the base. I'm assuming these were planted by my great grandmother who died in 1972(I wasn't born until '79).

Then I'd say it's most likely not Eglantine, which is well-known for the strong apple fragrance of it's foliage.

Probably is the Evangeline then. It sure is a tough one to survive all those years with no disease sysptoms.

The fact that you didn't mention fragrance, it was growing in shade for so many years and the deeper pink color is why I thought it was Evangeline over Sweet Brier (Eglantine.)

If you want to be 100% sure, you could take a cutting with a bloom to a local rose nursery, call your local chapter of the ARS (tell them you want to speak with their consulting rosarian)or even try your county extension office to get a positive ID.

Does it repeat or is it a spring bloomer? It might be American Pillar if it only blooms in the Spring.
