Name That Rose!

How do you tell rose species apart?

I am an longtime vegetable and herb gardener but I am new to roses. How do you tell rose species apart? I have pics of some of my neighbor's roses. I was offered cuttings or the entire plants. Some of the leaves have black splotches. Will I spread this disease to my husband's established roses?

Karen, I know you found the rose ID forum, but the "rose" and "antique roses" forums get WAY more hits/traffic, whatever, so if you want helpful responses, I would post this on those. Folks post ID questions on those every day, and get responses quickly.
