Constance Spry's Rootstock

| The graft on my Constance Spry is officially dead. It looked pitiful last year, and this year it's brown and crunchy. It never really took off anyway, so I'm not mourning it very much. There are lovely healthy canes coming from the rootstock, but I have no idea what it can be. Based on what I'm seeing so far, I may be inclined to move it and use it in the background somewhere.
Here's what I have: Blue-ish green leaves and stems. No sign of any disease so far (and some of my other more high-maintenance roses are already showing BS).
Not many thorns, though the ones it has are long and curved. Green like the stems.
Single white flowers with prominent yellow stamens, about 2" across. I didn't lay on the ground to see if it was fragrant -- with the current state of my allergies, I doubt I would have been able to smell it anyway.
Any ideas? |

| I don't think Grace Seward is the one. Rats! What's hanging me up on this one is that most of the single whites I find say they're well-armed with thorns -- this one has sparce, though deadly, thorns. Some of the others indicate reddish or rusty new growth -- the new growth on this guy is just as green as grass. I'm hoping that the shape of the bud in the first photo may be a good clue. I figure the biggest clue is the fact that this is some sort of root stock. Growers don't use just any stock for their grafting, so someone somewhere should know what this is. I wish I could remember exactly where I got this rose. I have kept really good records that past 3 years or so, but I can't for the life of me remember where this one came from. When I go over there this morning (we don't live there just yet -- long story) I'll hunt around the base and see if, by chance, I left the tag attached. It's a long shot, but it's worth the risk of a thorn or two to get closer to an identification. |

| That's Rosa Canina "Laxa". It's used as a rootstock in some places. Link below. |
