Can anyone recognise this thorny rose?

Hi, I have a rose growing in my border hedge. It was cut down last year and has grown to about 7-8ft this year. It has just flowered. The blooms are pink and very scented. The stems are very prickly the thorns being of varying length and covering the whole stem (pic available). I have been told it is an old english rose, has anyone got any ideas on which rose it is? Would be grateful of any help.
