Name That Rose!

pink & white single rose

We are in the process of building a botanic garden on the grounds of the old state hospital in Traverse City. Throughout the site there are tall shrubs of this particular rose, but I haven't been able to figure out what it is. It is a single rose with pink and white petals (so that seems to rule out swamp rose) and it's hips are more bottle shaped than round, which rules out rosa carolina. Any ideas? Here some pictures of the rose and its hips:

Could it be rosa canina - the dog rose? I was hoping it would be a native, but perhaps not.

Yes, I thought it was liable to be dog rose as soon as I saw your pictures. Variable species seen in North America both as a spontaneous weed and as unrestrained rootstock sprouts. Sometimes also, of course planted as a specimen being grown for its own merits.
