The new growth is showing Roundup damage on the multiflora. The first might be Mme. Plantier. The coloring is rather vivid, but many digital cameras have that set as the default.

I think you are right about Mme. Plantier. About the right size shrub. Are you familiar with that rose? I found a sucker a foot away where the lawn is constantly mowed that has new growth that is red tinged. I didn't see any red on the new growth of the plant though. The odd thing is that it appears to have 3 stocks coming out of the ground, so I don't think it is grafted. Take a look. - Paul

I'm sure the first is Mme. Plantier. I have this rose and the slim, long stems are characteristic. It's also nearly thornless. Mine is own-root so I don't see why the cemetery one couldn't be.

I've been to the same place and seen the same 'Madame Plantier'. Wonder if any of the "Roundup damage" we see here these days is actually first arrival of hypervirulent rose rosette, or another biological condition.
