This rose is not a bush

It's a collection of single canes emerging from the soil. It was given to me 30 years ago by an elderly woman who had it from childhood. I've tried over the years to ID it without success. It has spread a lot, apparently by runners, and covers quite a large area now. Scent is light, and seems to me to be damask. Blooms once. Quite hardy.

Apothecary's Rose? I know that Gallica's can have the type of growth that you describe.

Boy, it sure looks like it, Jennifer! I would like it to be the Apothecary's Rose, so as of today I'm going to stop calling it The Old Rose That the Old Lady Gave Me.

Petaloid, I asked the Antique Roses Forum about this rose last year. Didn't want to be a pest . . .

I do believe you have R. gallica officianalis, aka The Apothecary Rose. Its a beautiful creature. You also want to find its striped sport called Rosa Mundi.
