what was this awesome rose?

I'm sorry I didn't snap a picture, but I hope a few observations will help -

This rose had red buds that opened to a very large, very gorgeous deep pink flower that was somewhat paler toward the center and darker around the outer edges.

As for shape, I would guess HT (a full one though), maybe Grandiflora though I don't know those well enough to say.

The foliage was pretty dark, and very healthy for a rose bush growing in New Jersey (Monmouth County). Saw it in June.

Scent? I don't smell very well so I'm not sure.

Most importantly, it was a knockout - a jaw dropper. This has to be a variety that rose lovers know well.

I know there are a gazillion varieties out there - suggesting a good web site with lots of photos would help too. Thanks! MsBumble

You can try this site and do the advanced search. However I would expect you will be ovewelmed by too many choices.

Thanks Olga. I struck out at helpmefind but picked up a rose encyclopedia at the library and I'm pretty sure this rose was HT 'Heritage'. I must have flipped past it many times in catalogs- it must be seen live! MsB

Hmmm. I would like to know what book you saw the info on that HT "Heritage", just to consider when it was available here. 'Cause it isn't available now.

I'm thinking you might have seen Queen Elizabeth. Did you see this in a public garden or at a private home?

Maybe Sophie's Perpetual? That's a China though, I guess it's possible with winter protection, but I don't know much about that. Another thought is Spanish Beauty (the Hybrid Tea), I think it's darker in the center, not the edges, but you could check.

Was this at a house or park? IIRC, the Jersey Shore rose society planted roses in a park in Monmouth county. If that's the case, I know who planted them
