 o
spider mites again... sorry

Hi all,
I think I have a spider mite infestation... very small brown critters on the undersides of the leaves?

Already read the last thread about it (26may '04; I am unable to find the one before it)... problem is, I do not think there is any "Bioform liquid" in Singapore. Also, as the plant is in a pot on the corridor outside my flat, spraying it with a high pressure jet of water is not possible --water and mites will land on whoever is walking downstairs! :p

If the mites hate seaweed, can I boil seaweed/kelp in water and spray this "extract" on them? Have been looking hard for kelp extract here... no success so far :(

Please help, this is my first, one, and only rose plant!
Thanks to all in advance.

Btw, Singapore is a tropical country, ave temp 28-32 degCelsius all year round (if temp drops below 21 degC it'll be v big news :) ...), humidity about 80%, all year round too. We just had a period of hot, dry weather but I did not dare to let water touch the leaves for fear of fungal diseases...

Spider mite coloring can vary, most of them I see are a reddish brown, but the major key is that there will be webbing on the plants. Insecticidal soap is the best means of control of spider mites, mix 1 teaspoon of a real soap (that is a soap made from animal fats and lye not a detergent) in 1 quart of water and spray the plant every 5 days until control is achieved and then as necessary after that.

Have anyone tried spraying with a strong solution of grapefruit seed extract ? I belive it must be sprayed on leafs, canes and soilsurface to work and repeated every night for a few days. It can burn leafs so it must not be done in direct sunlight.
