| Anytime any plant has some disease it is time to look at the soil that plant is growing in since plants that grow in good, healthy soils are less likely to have disease. When I bring a new Rose home from the garden center it usually does have Black Spot and a few treatments with a 50/50 mix of fat free milk and water will usually eliminate that problem until the plant gets settled into the good, healthy soil with lots of organic matter that is evenly moist but well drained that I have. |

| The soil we have recently bought is the miraclegrow potting mix. Is this suitable? |

Are these rioses growing in pots? That product is about the most expensive product there is, and contrary to what the ads tell you is probably not necessary. |

| yes they are all in pots of differing sizes(we have 12 bushes in total... thought we were buying 3 plants but when we were repotting turns out they put 4 plants per tiny pot) |

| Does 2% milk work if mixed with a little more water? Is there a particular time of day one should apply this mixture? Is it safe to assume this would be suitable for all bushes with black spot? So many questions, so little time ... :) |

"Is it safe to assume this would be suitable for all bushes with black spot?" Not necessarily. I do know this is effective for Black Spot of Roses, but since the black spot other plants can get is different and maybe is insect cause not disease caused, the milk spray is not effective then. "Is there a particular time of day one should apply this mixture?" Any spray should only be applied early in the morning, so it is dry before the sun will maybe cause the leaves to heat up because of that application, or in the evening. Never apply any spray material during the heat of the day. This could be applied on a very cloudy day too, as long as the sun will not be a factor. "Does 2% milk work if mixed with a little more water?" Any fat in the milk, unless you have raw milk, will apparently interrupt what this product does. Evidently pasturization changes the fat. The original USDA research on using milk for disease control was in Brazil and raw, whole milk was used in that research and was very effective at controlling a very stubborn virus that other means of control would not or were too expensive to use. Since many places in the USA do not allow the sale, currently, of raw milk other research was done and it was found that the fat free milk did aid in control of some bacterial and viral plant diseases. |
