Not necessarily harmful, at least no more than many other fertilizers, just unnecessary if you build up your soil organically. It might be something needed during the transition from using synthetics to a proper organic soil, but once the soil is functioning as soil should it would not be necessary.

Question for Kimmsr: Do you use fertilizer on your established roses?
Or do you just top dress with organics (compost,etc.)?
