Texas gardeners please help?

| I keep reading sites that talk about pruning in February or March. Does that apply to us? I have two already blooming and I should think that we don't prune (and I don't mean deadheading and such) while they're active (not dormant). Am I right? Shouldn't we in South Texas prune in Fall or Winter? |

| I think the timing of pruning, is to do it just before the roses break dormancy. Up here (Houston area) that's the end of January to the middle of February. If your roses never go dormant then you only have to do selective pruning. But there again, it also depends of whether you grow old garden roses or new hybrid roses. Maybe the best thing for you to do is search the web for American Rose Society website, find the San Antonio chapter and see what they recommend for your area. Another place to check for good information is Antique Rose Emporium. |
