dying back of canes after spring pruning

Good Day,
I garden in zone 6, my roses are showing signs of life but it seems every year I go out and prune, I have what appeared to be healthy white center canes, die back? I clean my clipper etc and try to seal with nail polish. What am I doing wrong? I will wait for a reply before I go out. Also, any place to purchace roses that are comparable to what Merrygro in Fl offered?
Thank you all
Jo

This is a good question to post on the main Rose Forum as well, many folks there might have ideas.

Here is a link that might be useful: Rose Forum

How far down do you prune?
Where, in relation to a bud node do you prune?
