Epsom salts are a very soluble form of Magnesium Sulfate and if your soil is low in Mg it may be a good idea to add some in this form to help short term. However, adding any nutrient if it is not needed can cause more problems than it cures.

A soil test may be helpful. With a soil sample analysis, you will know exactly what need to be added or not. Feeding the soil with alfalfa tea/ pellets or fish emulsion will also encourage basal breaks.
